As of right now, my favorite five films of 2013 are BYZANTIUM, DISCONNECT, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, WARM BODIES and THE WAY WAY BACK, while my five favorite new scores are COPPERHEAD (Laurent Eyquem), ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW (Abel Korzeniowski), EVIL DEAD (Roque Baños), THE LONE RANGER (Hans Zimmer) and SUMMER IN FEBRUARY (Benjamin Wallfisch).

So I take it by the responses so far that no one has any interest in Fruitvale Station?
I haven't had the chance to see it yet. I'm very curious. From some I've heard overwhelmingly positive responses; from others I hear something a little different (http://imixwhatilike.org/2013/08/13/fruitvale/). I'm debating whether to watch and judge it on its own terms as a movie, or whether to better familiarize myself with the case it's based on first.
Thank you for the link, mastadge (and your comments Michael24). I do have to apologize however, as I stand firmly by my assessment of the film and the interviews I've devoured with the cast, crew, family members, and community. To me, the film was a very riveting character study, and a fantastic spotlight on the social issues facing young black men (and this film is NOT just about Oscar being shot by a white police officer). On top of that, as a film it was very well-made. Technically proficient with a vérité style by an emerging young black filmmaker, stellar and believable performances by lead Michael B. Jordan and the supporting cast, and the film tackled issues which can be easily scoffed at or brushed under the table (again, this film is NOT just about Oscar being shot by a white police officer, but rather the roles which these common individuals take to arrive at these destinies). And as it is, Fruitvale Station was a decidedly grown up diversion from the endless, brainless shit which clutters movie theaters every Summer.
