WEDNESDAY, JULY 10
THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN---20th Century Fox tv pilot underway based on the comic book about Allan Quatermain, Capt. Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Mina Harker teaming up to battle villains. A 2003 movie based on the comic book starred Sean Connery in his last movie role. Alan Moore, the comic book's creator, is not involved with the tv series.
MARVEL STUDIOS---Vin Diesel posted comments and a photo about his meeting with Marvel executives that hinted about his possible future role, "Marvel meeting today. Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed...P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen... you know I get tunnel vision with my work... and after that meeting today... wow!"
SAVING MR. BANKS---first photo from the movie about Walt Disney's efforts to buy the movie rights to MARY POPPINS from PL Travers. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson star.
THE WALLACE AND THE BRUCE---the Discovery Channel has ordered this untitled miniseries based on THE WALLACE AND THE BRUCE book trilogy. The miniseries will be more historically accurate than the Mel Gibson movie BRAVEHEART which was also inspired by the books. Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker are the executive producers.
MOTHER---Halle Berry is the star/producer of this comedy movie in which a woman flees her mobster fiance and hides by pretending to be the mother of a young man.
DOCTOR WHO---Rory Kinnear (SKYFALL, QUANTUM OF SOLACE) denied rumors that he will replace Matt Smith , "I don't where it [speculation] came from and how these things evolve. I haven't been and I am totally certain that I will not be asked to be the next Doctor Who. If I was an actor who was really longing to play Doctor Who, then this would be torturous, but it's a program I've never watched, so I don't even really know what it is."
THE LAST DAYS ON MARS---horror movie about the first manned landing on Mars in which the astronauts discover a bacteria which turns them into zombies. Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas and Olivia Williams star. Oscar-nominated Ruari Robertson is the director.
THE STRAIN---Sean Astin joins the cast of the FX/Guillermo del Toro pilot about a CDC team battling a vampire plague in New York.
TWO AND HALF MEN---Charlie Harper's illegitimate daughter will be a recurring character next season who is a "sexy and gorgeous" lesbian.
OUTLANDER---Sam Heughan will play Jamie Fraser in the Starz/Sony Pictures Television series from Ron Moore.
SNOWFALL---sci fi movie underway set in Chicago during a storm-of-the-century blizzard in which passengers trapped on the El Train discover the blizzard is part of an alien invasion.
THE JUNGLE BOOK---Disney Pictures live-action movie underway based on the Rudyard Kipling short story collection.

Among bad ideas for a TV show Extraordinary Gentlemen is top of the list.
The movie was not a big enough flop to stop this from happening? I mean how many weeks would this last, 4 to 6 at most. The studios have shown little intelligence in approving stuff doomed to failure, so it will probably happen anyway.
Are we not done with vampires yet, I mean that dead horse had been beaten over and over again for years now. Give up on this already- please!
I have to disagree....
I think the basic idea is a very sound one for a TV Series.
It would work far better then as a feature film.
The best example would be BUFFY-THE VAMPIRE SLAYER..
If you told me that a TV Series based on that film would turn out to be one of the best shows of the last 20 years before it went on the air, I would thought you mad as a hatter...
Now, the folks producing the show have the advantage of being able to look at the feature film and see what worked and what didn't.
I'm keeping an open mind, but this could be a lot of fun.

Television has adapted films badly usually, and usually messed up science fiction and fantasy too. That is not to say some of them have not had an audience, they have. I was not a Buffy fan, a lot were I guess. That was an exception though. The list of what did not work about the feature LOEG is a long one. The only thing that did work was Sean Connery and that submarine. I also usually find these multi-character hero set-ups fail more often than not. I did not really care about any of the hero characters in the feature, or really in Avengers either. They are spread too thin. Star Trek has barely pulled off the large casts in the shows and features, usually one or two characters are pretty much throwaways, the Chekov and Sulu of the casts.
All of the above said, I would heartily welcome the return of good weekly serial adventure shows on TV that do not include Zombies, Vampires, angsty teenagers. I have gotten so desperate that I have started watching Seaquest on Netflix again!
Yeah, to Solium, it took Star Trek TNG three years to really work. Fox never gives that amount of time and money for a show.
