I guess we should all just bow to Yor's and facehugger's better judgement and taste in music and let this thread die a quiet peaceful death. I'm convinced by all their articulate and intelligent arguments. I'm throwing out all my Hanzzimmer and Jon Powell discs (forget trying to sell them at a used CD place since no one would actually pay for Zimmermuszak). While I'm at it, I'm also chucking all the Goldsmith '80s scores that had those annoying cheesy ass synths because they sound dated. And they weren't very well integrated with the orchestra. And I'm also not stopping there! I'm also chucking Morricone's CDs too, especially The Thing since Beltrami would have done a much better job if he weren't in diapers still playing with his own feces. Whew! Now my CD collection is so much lighter (as is my ipod!). Thanks Yor and facehugger! I'm so thrilled being in the presence of superior discerning musicians (you are musicians right? Since you seem to know music in and out) as yourselves! Now I'm off to listen to some sophisticated music from Xenakis. Sure it's about the emotional equivalent of having my fingernails ripped off one by one but it's "evolved" music and heaven forbid we listen to anything that is regressive to cave man times...

Here's my personal brief rumination of Zimmer: Even though I had been aware of film (and TV) music before, it was his THE LION KING that did it for me around Christmas 1994, when I was a wee(ish) lad of 13 summers. That score continues to be favourite of mine, as does THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. I haven't heard everything from him, but those colourful (!) scores from the 1990s will always have a special place in my collection. I enjoyed most of his early 2000s scores as well; never found anything wrong with GLADIATOR, or even PEARL HARBOUR. But somewhere between the first PotC scores and BATMAN BEGINS he "lost" me. I can't really point my finger at as to what exactly was the reason for that, but the scores began to bleed into one another. PotC3 was a major exception and having heard the complete score, it probably ranks as my second-favourite HZ score. I understand why Zimmer continues to be in such high demand and commands respect from the industry and love of the audience, and yet I agree with those of us who find little or nothing of artistic value in much of his recent and current music (or that of his associates, with the occasional exception). Is there anything I actively can do to change that? Of course not. But I can always choose whether or not I want to listen to his recent scores. Since I don't own them (having only heard them in the movie), it's not a big problem anyways...and those old scores that I have been enjoying for many years are only a click away. And if anybody sees fit to finally release the full LION KING, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT or A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN will have my money instantaneously. On that note...I wish you all a nice Sunday afternoon/evening. CK

David, like I said, I have no problem with you, or the original article. And I respect GOOD argument (just not dumb ones using "this is just my opinion lol!" as a convenient chicken-out). I've enjoyed some conversations with you. But please, if you REALLY WANT this thread to die like you say you do, you might refrain from pouring gasoline on fire? You know very well what I and YOR and others mean, and your sarcasm is way off the mark. 'sides, if those Zimmer fanatics REALLY want nothing more than circle jerking, maybe they should participate in some dedicated "Zimmer Da God! Only Devoted Fans should respond!" thread, instead of here, when the title is named "A POV (i.e. a POINT of VIEW)"? And last point, I frankly don't think this thread will "die" unless a moderator strikes. Zimmer cohorts still wash unto the shore of this thread in waves, like dead crabs and rotten seaweeds. And intelligent people still want to offer their well argued points (like the above poster ChristianKuhn did). I rest my case.

The irony here is that I was one of the most vocal forum members against Zimmer's style and philosophy of film scoring approach. Just ask internet stalker extraordinaire steb74 do dredge up some more priceless quotes from posts I made 5 years ago and not just this forum but anywhere across the fine landscape of the internet. I guess I've mellowed over the years and as such, should allow facehugger and Yor the same liberties I entertained when I was very much against the R-C style of music. I just hope we can all strive to play nicer in the sandbox.
