I'm aware there was already a thread about Ramin Djawadi's score to the upcoming Guillermo Del Toro robot monster epic Pacific Rim. That said, I've been listening to this for a solid week now and absolutely love the energy of it. But I also think I figured out one of the inspirations for the title music / theme... if you listen to the shape and progression, and even the choice of electric guitar, it sounds like a super pumped-up Remote Control version of John Carpenter's theme to Escape from New York!

First off, that tune was written and performed by JOHN CARPENTER AND ALAN HOWARTH... Let's not forget him shall we?
Also, I would be happy as a clam if you were right about them being even in the ballpark of something half as good as ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.

I've been listening to this one non-stop this week, alone with Djawadi's Clash of the Titans, Iron Man, and Red Dawn Great theme(s)! "Cancelling the Apocalypse" gets frequent playtime
I really enjoy the melodic moments of Pacific Rim but the Main Theme reminds me more of his Iron Man 2 theme. Aside from the flat 7 to tonic 8th note interval which is way too general to ascribe to any score as inspiration....
I like that Djawadi recaps his 3 note synth line introduced in The Shatterdome throughout the score. I think that's a cool idea.
And what a great movie overall. Mr. Djawadi`s music was a grand chunk (not bit...) of icing on a well-produced monster-hammering cake. Loved both it and the film. I wasn`t expecting anything walking into it... very exciting, superb effects, good characterizations, and a lack of cheesiness.
To my ears this score is to Mr. Djawadi what Rambo was to Brian Tyler. Thumbs up! Solid, stirring, and heroic!
A jumbled up (!) version of the score is currently available, but I notice too that an "expanded" Japanese import is on track for some time in December. Anybody have any more information on this?
