Music Composed by Nathan Barr (Hostel, True Blood)
In the shadows of a rusted Pennsylvania steel town, the mangled body of a teenage girl is discovered. As they hunt for a monster among them, rumors mount and many of the eccentric residents become suspects, from the newly arrived gypsy family to the wealthy Godfrey clan. In the twisted world of Hemlock Grove, everyone hides a dark secret. From director Eli Roth (Hostel) comes a chilling supernatural series based on Brian McGreevy’s novel.
Nathan Barr, master composer of such genre franchises as Hostel and True Blood, adds another sinful jewel to his crown.
Season One of HEMLOCK?GROVE?is available on demand anytime on Netflix.
I'm excited for any new Barr (though I haven't seen this show, which I heard was truly dreadful), so this is good news, but I really wish Varese would get back to releasing his True Blood music, for my money it's the best scoring currently on TV! It would be nice to get a CD of his music for The Americans too, even though the scoring was quite (effectively) sparse.
Nice review Travis. Im loving this wee score. Id just started watching the series and was instantly hooked. I really enjoyed Nathan Barr's True Blood scores but this one is the clear winner for me and the album is a great listen. Its a bit of a shame that there isn't more of it as theres tons of great musical moments in the series and i would be very surprised if we ever got a volume two soundtrack release.

Thanks! I have not heard any of Barr's other works, although after my good experience with Hemlock I would like to. The album is a bit on the short side, but as it stands a cohesive and solid listening experience. Sales will dictate whether we get a second volume. Hopefully, more listeners will take a chance like we have and discover one of 2013's hidden gems.
