Barely had the story hit CNN before the cowardly weenies at the Food Network pulled the plug on her show, scared to death sponsors might get upset. The whole thing is from years ago, and some folks might just have grown up a little in the meanwhile. She was honest enough to admit her transgressions and has now paid the big price for it, despite a most heartfelt apology. I don't like my food full of butter, and I am not in the least charmed by her over-the-top deep-South patter, but the fact is, the lady is getting screwed over, no thanks to a slow news day at CNN, NBC etc. I hope the Food Network goes down the toilet, along with all the self-righteous, finger-pointing assholes condemning her on the talk shows.
As usual, the media and people in general are basing their responses on the story being reduced down to the convenient thirty-second soundbite version. The issue was not that she used an offensive word once years ago, but that she was running a company that reportedly had a reputation for negative treatment of minority employees.
So cultural icon Quentin Tarantino can make a whole overblown career out of using the N word but this woman is done? No hipster support. (No you shouldn't say mean things anyway, duh)
Yeah, this seems fairly overblown. The question is, does she still do these things?
There's a black minister in Georgia who was interviewed on CNN, and stated that he knows for a fact that Paula Deen is not a racist (whatever she may have been 40 or 50 years ago). He is a close friend of a young black man who worked for Paula Deen, and she subsequently loaned him "thousands of dollars" for his start-up of a limousine service which he is now operating successfully.
Just to clarify - I do not use racial slurs and I have no sympathy for ignorant jerks who do. But I can't stand this business of people being drummed out of society for transgressions discovered to have been committed years ago, without regard to who they are now. She apologized, so let's do the Christian thing and forgive her, and forget about it. There are people a lot worse than her who are holding public office and pretending to be honorable citizens while stealing us blind. At least Paula Deen was decent enough to tell the truth.
If it was not so bad this would be the biggest joke of all time.The thing that get's me is the fact that RAP music , a very popular form of music for all races and creed, have said that word so many times in their songs, that it will to many become ingrained into their minds of those who listen to this music day and night.God forbid, if in anger or in instinct you might blurt such a word out.If society is going to do it one way then do it one way, you don't want this word heard much in public don't have popular music blast it out to millions of people. It is like smoking in front of your kids all your life and then you smack them when they smoke one cigarette as a teenager. Somebody must have framed her.

Does this mean every black person that has ever used the word 'honkey' or 'cracker' be fired?
Or anyone that ever used "wop", "spic", "kike", "polack"?
Speaking as a polack/honky, I often wonder why anyone gives a rat's patoot about these things anymore. Or why a word is given more power than the context/intention with which it's used. Seems to me like it should be the other way around.
(For the record, this Polish/Ukrainian refers to himself as a "puke". )
Black comedian Chris Rock has for years used the word at an oral machine gun rate. Context and time are everything, as is giving someone the reasonable benefit of a doubt. This is a political correctness crucifixion is there ever was. Paula Deen is perhaps the victim of being too honest at a deposition, and then the instant piling on of scandal vultures.
I don't like her cooking and I have difficulty with the over done belle accent, but I believe in treating people right... and this ain't it!
escalated really quick. this is something she said a long time ago if read the articles correctly. but good thing about this is that she gained more fans out of it. would visit her restaurant but Savannah is a long ass drive from cobb county.
I'm sure she'll be dragging herself through the gutter on the "apology circuit" and beg for forgiveness from the likes of Al Sharpton, who will no doubt use the occasion to add his own apologies for his part in the Tawana Brawley hoax and the Crown Heights riot.
