I didn't buy his last two scores (although I may pick them up at some point) but this new score sounds more likely to be a bit more retro and old-school. It's a classical music label, so I'm sure any Prodigy/Zimmer influences will be toned down! I think I'll grab this one right-off and trust in the Force. Apologies if it's already been threaded, I've been on my jollies
Thanks Lok. Looks like it's just us two then I've just played a few tracks on spotify and it all sounds very nice. It's got a slight Legends of the Fall vibe to it, which is no bad thing. Lots of lovely and lush piano moments. Seems like a winner.
With all the new Wallfisch attention at the moment, I've dug this one out and given it a re-spin. My God, it's a beauty! Full of lush, lovely melodies and rhapsodic orchestrations. One of the sung melodies reminds me of Elfman's BLACK BEAUTY, which makes me think both are based on an olde English tune? I hope BW gets to do more period dramas in the future, once he shakes off his current KING OF HORROR tag. This and BITTER HARVEST find him writing in a manner that truly befit his talents.
It's a fantastic score, his best so far! I also adore his DESERT DANCER, and think BHOPAL: A PRAYER FOR RAIN is very fine indeed. Very much looking forward to what he can do for the new BLADE RUNNER, although I hope he doesn't get stuck in RC-isms now (or horror stuff -- I thought the horror bits from IT were underwhelming, but the nostalgia music very well written).
Yes Thor, parts of DESERT DANCER and BHOPAL are really gorgeous and heartbreaking too! He's such a strong composer when he's writing tuneful melodies from the heart. That's not to say he's a slouch in the horror department. Hearing those kids snarl 'oranges and lemons' at me in IT is VERY creepy and effective too.
