I was rewatching some KRAFT SUSPENSE THEATRE episodes (or, as it was known in syndication reruns, CRISIS), and thought, man, what a treasure trove of music by great composers. In this series, there are are scores by many of the greats, including Bernard Herrmann, Franz Waxman, Lyn Murray, Lalo Schifrin, and John Williams (who not only wrote several original scores, but also two different title themes for the first and second seasons). This is really an overlooked gem of television scoring. Have any of the great labels (e.g. Kritzerland, Intrada, La-La Land, Varese, etc.) looked into this? Honestly, there is some great music in many of these episodes.

I'm with you Jim! I would LOVE to see some of this music released (I'm not sure if this music (if it exists) resides at Universal or not, but I think it does...) along with "Bob Hope Presents The Chrysler Theater" which also has a treasure-trove of great scores....

I see that was made by Perry Como's company Roncom. They would also have John Williams score to SERGEANT RYKER. But since I've seen no one has unearthed anything from them including their series Court Marshal and Run For Your Life, I have an idea the interest is minimal. Besides they have tried to sell these things like with JERICHO/GHOSTBREAKER with Williams and Goldsmith. And I saw no volume two of either the TV Omnibus or Jerry Goldsmith:The Early Years. The eighties crowd are happy campers but us oldsters are left out in the cold. Please correct me and tell these have sold well, otherwise I won't hold my breath.

well, I'm not so interested in the others at the moment, but as a John Williams completist, I would be very much interested in the Williams scores for this series. (maybe released in a Williams TV box set)

Check out this earlier thread I did for an overview of the Williams material:

Did Herrmann score more than one episode?

Funny but I mentioned this series yesterday in another thread - "TV One Hour Drama Scores - Then and Now " -

I didnt realize all these composers contributed to the series - I thought that Williams was the main composer.

It appears that Herrmann did score more than just the episode A LION AMONGST MEN. If you watch enough KRAFT episodes, you'll notice that if an episode does not have an original score, it is tracked with music from other KRAFT episodes, not other TV series. Well, quite a few tracked episodes contain Herrmann music that is not from A LION AMONGST MEN. Therefore, this seems to mean that Herrmann did at least one more episode, although I've never seen it. The guess is that it may be the episode THE LAST CLEAR CHANCE, but, unfortunately, that episode was not included when the series went into syndication, and hasn't been seen since the '60s.

not mentioned here , KST aka SUSPENSE is being shown in nicely preserved prints on AntennaTV on weekends - check your local listings or the AntennaTV website .

Funny how this series escaped my notice until these reruns started -- I may have seen it in its original run - but it left no impression - maybe I was too business goin to school -
