Schiffy and Francis are right, as usual. What's happened to this forum? I used to enjoy discussing all kinds of scores from new to old. Now I just drop in to check on new releases. Its close-minded, spiteful, ignorant, uninformed and downright self-righteous threads like these that keep me away lately.

I hope you change your mind but at this point I can't blame you; I get more annoyed by this board as time goes on and might need a permanent change, wouldn't mind a break for the summer.

Frankly I think most people who've been round this place a long time are at varying levels of fed-up-ness with it.

I comment an awful lot less these days and, like you, it's to watch for announcements mostly nowadays.

The enormous hatred against the MOS score on this board has really surprised me. (Especially since I liked to criticize Zimmer in the past, but have become a big fan of his work on MOS and thought this would happen to more score fans.)

Still, people disagree, with even more (unlimited) passion on a message board. One cannot change that.

One should just leave those threads to themselves and concentrate on topics which attract people who love a particular composer and his work.

As expected, Zimmer's MoS is equally loved as well as hated. So here's an interesting question, would Tyler Bates, Snyder's usual composer, have done a better job scoring the new Superman flick?

No. Has Bates ever written a memorable theme?

Like a lot of people, I have a love/hate relationship with the Zimmer style.

On the one hand, I bloody hate that repetitive, heavy handed percussion action music thing he does on tracks like "Oil Rig". (Although I will say, he's got a way with rhythms.)

On the other, I have to tell you, I'm bloody addicted to that repetitious but exalting, swelling, emotional summation thing he does, which is most flourished in "What Are You Doing When You're Not Saving The World?" Addicted, I tell you.

I hate and I love all at once.

Bottom line: Though there are bits I hate, for the bits I love I say, no, I'll take Zimmer's.


This pretty much sums up my feelings. I often replay "What Are You Doing When You're Not Saving The World?"

There are studios that brainwash, and there are studios that brainwash MORE SUCCESSFULLY.

Let me ask you this, then: Is any love of any movie legit? If I love "Casablanca," or "Lawrence of Arabia," or "Annie Hall," is it because I've been brainwashed?

Or is it only brainwashing if people like a movie you don't like?


It is brainwashing if people "like" (reads: pay for and hype for) a movie they themselves don't like.

I suggest you look up the definition of brainwashing before we have any meaningful intelligent discussion on it.
