Slim Whitman, the country singer best known for his high falsetto who became best known in the early '80s when a two L.P. set of his recordings were sold on television via mail order, has died at age 90. Condolences?
Sad...but at least he must have taken some pleasure in being responsible for saving the world from alien invasion!! I wonder how he felt about that?

One of the few really funny things in that film. Too bad it was at Slim's expense (though he may well have earned a royalty, which means it was not at all at his expense but quite the contrary). I can't say I was a big fan of his, but the man sold a lot of records, and I've always had a sort of slack-jawed, glassy-eyed admiration for people who can really yodel well. Vaya con Dios, Slim.
Wow, I am shocked to hear that he had lived this long! Being in ATL our Channel 17(now TBS) used to show his damned commercials ad nauseum. Little did I know as a kid that this cat made a MINT off his cheap, cheap commercials. He sold a ton of records. He became something of joke regardless but...I actually got to seem him briefly in concert! He gave an after game performance for the long ago defunct Atlanta Chiefs soccer team. Several hundred stayed for it and cheered him on enthusiastically. I didn't stay for the whole thing but it was fun nonetheless.
The last I heard of him was when his singing voice saved the planet from a Martian invasion. What a class act!
