RED DESERT is Antonioni at his most boring!
brm

What? Not "Zabriskie Point"?

Hmm. Upon reflection, maybe ZP isn't so bad.

I said "boring" not "bad"

So bad and boring, I almost walked out of (that I remember recently(:

"Men In Black II"
"Star Trek: Nemesis"

Even that Godawful joystick piloting in "Star Trek: Insurrection", didn't drive me out of the theater, even when that female officer looked at him like "Oh, yeah -- grab that joystick!".

CASINO ROYALE (2006) had more expository dialog than the 10 previous Bond movies all put together. Instead of just letting the characters emote and do, they talk about it first, during and after. Endless harangues and explanations and lectures and accusations and whining. It would be the most boring movie I've seen if it weren't so diseased.

'The Thin Red Line' by Terence Malick.

I remember going to see it in the Odeon Leicester Square (London, UK), and getting a nice seat too, hoping for an engrossing couple or so hours. Instead I found myself dropping off to sleep halfway through.

I 'hate' to admit it but Malick seems to be a snore inducer to me. I felt the same with 'The New World'. His films do look really pretty, but they just don't hold me whatsoever.

Another film which I thought brilliant!

It's obvious that this thread isn't about what films people find boring but about individual taste and opinion.

Another borefest was The Game Plan. The Rock is a self absorbed pro football player that finds out he has a 8 year old daughter. He resists it at first, spends time with her, comes to love her, becomes less self-absor..... YAWN ..... This took 2, yes 2, whole hours to get through this mundane, run of the mill plot.

As far as big movies go, Escape from LA was it for me. The only reason I went at the time was to see the Star Trek First Contact trailer. The internet back then wasn't what it is now, so I wanted to see the trailer in all its glory. I left about halfway through. Just total nonsense.

I'd say about ten years ago, I went to an indie with my wife called Sunshine State. I zoned out for the entire movie. After we left, I asked her, "What was that movie about?" Terrible.

I know this is slightly unrelated, but my worst *experience* ever at the movies was when I was in high school. I went to see Schindler's List on a date. Seriously...on a date. It seemed like a good idea at the time because we both were Spielberg fans and enjoyed history. After the movie ended, my date cried all the way to the car thinking about what she saw. She never called me again.

THE PASSENGER (1975)

For me the film was so incoherent that I simply gave up trying to understand it. Indeed, after the end credits a woman in the audience yelled out that she'd buy anyone a drink if he/she could explain what she just saw!

Oh come on! THE PASSENGER is a GREAT film and it's not that difficult to understand.

Yeah.

Yeah, been there too... took a date to see Ironweed with Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep living in the Depression Era gutter. Not a bad film, but a terrible date movie! smile

Going to an indie-film (I hate that term) in relation to getting bored out of your skull is asking for it.
The playground of hipster Apple fetishists is the killing field of all that's fun or original in a film.

I guess you were doing it all wrong or have you never seen that Seinfeld episode?

The Shining. I know; great visuals, etc., and I usually enjoy Kubrick films. Just indulgent and dumb. Not that it didn’t have great ideas, it did. But like others of its ilk it came off as a “Scene Movie” (“Okay, in this scene Wendy finds Jack has typed the same words over and over. Ooh! Wow, in this scene a river of blood flows down the hallway! Eeew! Now, Wendy looks into a room and sees some weird sex act! Gag! Was it real? Hey! I’ve got one! - In this scene we see if anyone notices the wallpaper! Killer!”). And how come Halloran’s Shining didn’t work well enough to warn him about Jack waiting for him with an axe? I wore out 2 pairs of disbelief suspenders for this one.

THE LONG DAY CLOSES

I have been wanting to see this ever since it was reviewed on "Siskel & Ebert"
I t looked great and I love films about post-war England.

After 5 minutes i was bored stiff. Ninety minutes of absolute tedium.

btw I think we should change the title of this thread to include home video.
TLDC is on Criterion dvd.

brm

ps yeah, we know you LOVED it Thor and Mark
lol!
