According to IMDB...

"Michael Kamen was the film's original composer along with his friend, David Sanborn, who was going to provide the saxophone solos for the score. His score was rejected after the film was delayed with re-shoots and post production issues. The film's original posters list Kamen and Sanborn as the composers. Mark Mancina would replace Kamen and it was the second time the he would replace him on a film in the same year, the other being Assassins also produced by Joel Silver, which would also be delayed and released within months of each other."

If true, it sounds like a score was recorded then tossed... is it possible we might get to hear it someday?

[known] Rejected Kamen scores recorded partially or fully (partially could be in demo form, too):

"Dead Bang" (some left in the film)

"Assassins"

"Fair Game" (which may not have been fully recorded, as the troubles on the film lead him, unfortunately, to concentrate on "Assassins")

"Strange Days"

"The Avengers" [1] (Marius De-Vries)

"Tomb Raider" [1]

and possibly "Kinderstransport".

Wouldn't mind a collection or 'best of' of these.

Funny I have a memory of seeing the FG poster in a theater back in the day with the Kamen Sanborn listing. Would love to hear this score... The Lethal Weapon films are my favorite action scores period.

From a 6/6/10 post by MV:

If we ever get back in biz with WB this and Assassins we are on the to do list.

I think this might've been back when WaterTower Music was getting started and LLL wasn't sure about their future with WB... thankfully, that doesn't appear to be a problem anymore.

Like JohnF, I remember a poster at the theater with Kamen and Sanborn's names on it. I went in to see the film, and suddenly Mark Mancina was the composer. And WHAT a score. One of my absolute favorites ever. Seems like the trumpet became the new solo instrument instead of Sanborn's sax. Thankfully, I got a CD called The Hans Zimmer/Mark Mancina Collaboration after I had seen the film, featuring 2 cuts from the score. I now also have a great "unmentionable" with Mancina's score.

Funnily, several of those received good scores in the end, like Mancina's Fair Game and Assassins, Gary Chang's Dead Bang, and Deep Forest's (and Graeme Revell's) Strange Days.

Hopefully. But it won't be this year, as I asked MV in another thread here a month or two ago if there were any other rejected scores coming from them, and he said likely not, and "First love" was the only one he he thought was this year. Of course it could change, but I don't think it's likely. Wish I had the precise quote in front of me.

Actually, according to the IMDB trivia entry for that film, I think it says that Gary Chang's score was partially replaced by Kamen when the producers hired him to write music with an "edge" similar to Die Hard; he received an "additional music" credit. It would be very nice to see both scores eventually released in their entirety someday

Would give a pinky toe to get Kamen's Fair Game!

Assassins only had a few demos recorded. An actual score was never recorded for the film.

Fair Game...we don't know yet.

I'd thought that the opposite situation happened on Dead Bang-- Michael Kamen had written the original score, and Chang was brought in for a new score with Kamen receiving the "additional" credit for the cues which were retained. Does anyone have any references to cite besides IMDB?

Surprisingly, the posters I find on-line don't list any composer, which is unusual for the time, though there was an odd period in the 80s when some Disney posters didn't list their composers, even big names like Hamlisch for Three Men and a Baby and North for Good Morning, Vietnam.

I have the Paula Gosling book Fair Game and there is credits for the movie on it and on the Music by credit it says Michael Kamen`s name.
