Gagarin: First in Space (George Kallis)

Portraying the legendary Yuri Gagarin, the Russian cosmonaut hero who was the first man in space and won the space race against USA, Russian theatrical feature film Gagarin: First in Space features an impressive score by up and coming composer George Kallis (Highlander: The Source) written for orchestra, choir and electronics.

It’s a classic film score in terms of scope and thematic richess, and one that offers a vast emotional landscape ranging from the epic and grand to the intimate and reflective. Standout dramatic cues such as “The Launch of Vostok” and “Orange Parachute” are contrasted by pieces that reflect the awe and wonder of space, and others that underscores the background family story of Gagarin. This is without doubt one of this year’s most impressive non-Hollywood orchestral scores!

Definitely looking forward to checking out the samples here -- I've been waiting to hear more Kallis since his Highlander score oh so many years ago now.

The samples sound good to me. I think I'll be getting this.

The trailer looks good too. Too bad I don't speak Russian. frown

I finally got around to listening to the samples today. I am impressed and will be buying this one.

While checking out this composer, I happened upon Highlander, The Source. I listened to a sampling in iTunes (only place I could find it) and surpisingly I liked some of it. I found some it too techno - video game like. That said, I may take a chance on this one as well. I am not familiar with the series - can anyone enlighten me or recommend it? smile

I don't know what "richess" is (Is there no proofreading any more these days?), but the samples are really promising.
