I don't think i could stand watching 'The Hunted' again, and this even looks worse !

I just watched this on Netflix last night (*Minor Spoilers* ahead). Young's score is, indeed, VERY good. Such a lovely, "Earthen" main theme laden with Appalachian Americana - A theme of understated dignity and grace. A worthy spiritual cousin to his rejected UNFINISHED LIFE. That 10 minutes (!!!) end title roll, the first half of which plays over a montage of forest b-roll I assume the filmmakers rolled on before or after principal photography, is mesmerizing. I actually played back the entire 10 minutes again when it was over. A very graceful and unexpected close for a modern thriller! I've never heard a cello played in such a fashioned as is heard throughout the score, almost fiddle-like. Very neat. The film was nowhere near as bad as many have made it out to be, but John Travolta's casting was, indeed, just not right for the film at all. I just didn't buy him at all, and in a film where it's basically him and DeNiro for 95% of the screen time, that obviously presents a problem. The digital cinematography was often dodgy during action scenes (some real questionable color correction issues plague the film throughout, and I thought filmmaking had moved beyond shooting Day for Night back in the 70's!!!) and the power shifts between characters were too frequent. The "salty lemonade torture" scene was ridiculous. The scene in the abandoned church, almost as much. The whole pseudo-religious element felt odd and out of place for me through and through. There were other problems too, but none so egregious as the above. I'm probably alone here but I actually liked the ending though - A lot. There was a good deal of humility to it, where they could have just ended it in a more black-and-white manner as we'd expect of a modern thriller (bad guy dies, good guy wins). It elevates the film somewhat above the fray in its gentle and human resolution. Young's main theme clearly speaks to what the heart of the film is about; It's obvious he just truly "got" what the makers were going for here, succeeding more adeptly with his music than does the film itself. I'm sure this score will surface before too long. It's too good and Young has too strong a following for it not to emerge at some point.
