Just watched this upcoming movie earlier today and while it has many flaws, music is far from being one of them. Chris Young composed a lovely and quite gentle score for natural aspects of this movie and incorporates various stringed instruments and solo cello along the full symphony orchestra recorded in Bratislava under the batton of Allan Wilson. While there is quite a lot of really beautiful thematic writting in the style of An Unfinished Life or opening of The Gift, the score of course features a number of thrilling sequences. Especially first action sequence is a true standout and absolute highlight of the score. Quite a lot of percussions featured in few action scenes, but since the movie is basically a copy of The Hunted, it is much more focused on two main actors - Robert DeNiro and John Travolta with weird yugoslavian accent and even weirder facial hair - who spent second half of the movie basically like two childs fighting in the sand box brutally torturing each and stealing each other's toys.
While the movie is quite lacking, the score is the best thing about the whole thing. Hopefully it will get released officially when the movie is out in mid July. Or has anyone already heard anything about score album being planned?
Well, hardly enough discussion of this lame movie with such an excellent score... it is opening later this week in the US... has anyone heard anything about possible score release?? It would be quite a shame if this marvelous score remained unreleased. Easily one of the best new scores I've heard this year.
Well, Hunted was excellent movie, this one... well, not so much but still could be worse. The score would make a great release as part of Varese limited edition series... I guess we´ll just have to wait and hope.
here you go... the middle section is a little SFX heavy at least first half of it, but it will give you some impression how excellent score this one is...
especially first chase sequence at 4:35 and De Niro being drafted by the river at 6:00 are just stunning examples. the main theme is just georgeous too as well as "healing montage" starting around 7:00 mark, which basically incorporates the main theme using more percussions and electronic. Fantastic score I hope you'll all enjoy too.
Just caught this on Netflix Streaming. Reminded me a bit of The Hunted with Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. That movie was dreadful and this one isn't too much better - but the score by Young is absolutely terrific. There's a especially great bit of montage music as DeNiro is pulling himself back together after being wounded in the leg.
A real shame this wasn't put to disc; easily one of the best scores of 2013.
Thanks a lot for the suite! Knowing Young's release policy I wouldn't be surprised if it turns up sonner or later, maybe as a promo. With these he's so far filled all the major gaps of his discography.
