Just watched this upcoming movie earlier today and while it has many flaws, music is far from being one of them. Chris Young composed a lovely and quite gentle score for natural aspects of this movie and incorporates various stringed instruments and solo cello along the full symphony orchestra recorded in Bratislava under the batton of Allan Wilson.
While there is quite a lot of really beautiful thematic writting in the style of An Unfinished Life or opening of The Gift, the score of course features a number of thrilling sequences. Especially first action sequence is a true standout and absolute highlight of the score. Quite a lot of percussions featured in few action scenes, but since the movie is basically a copy of The Hunted, it is much more focused on two main actors - Robert DeNiro and John Travolta with weird yugoslavian accent and even weirder facial hair - who spent second half of the movie basically like two childs fighting in the sand box brutally torturing each and stealing each other's toys.

While the movie is quite lacking, the score is the best thing about the whole thing.
Hopefully it will get released officially when the movie is out in mid July.
Or has anyone already heard anything about score album being planned?

Well, hardly enough discussion of this lame movie with such an excellent score... it is opening later this week in the US... has anyone heard anything about possible score release??
It would be quite a shame if this marvelous score remained unreleased.
Easily one of the best new scores I've heard this year.

Haven't heard anything about it. I don't think it's getting a wide release -- certainly none of my local theaters are playing it.

Haven't heard of it either. But I'm interested in a Young score.

I don't think i could stand watching 'The Hunted' again, and this even looks worse !

Well, Hunted was excellent movie, this one... well, not so much but still could be worse.
The score would make a great release as part of Varese limited edition series... I guess we´ll just have to wait and hope.

here you go... the middle section is a little SFX heavy at least first half of it, but it will give you some impression how excellent score this one is...

especially first chase sequence at 4:35 and De Niro being drafted by the river at 6:00 are just stunning examples. the main theme is just georgeous too as well as "healing montage" starting around 7:00 mark, which basically incorporates the main theme using more percussions and electronic. Fantastic score I hope you'll all enjoy too.

the score is really impressive and and it has a strong theme. It's too bad that there's no release planned.
The film is also quite underrated

Just watched the movie only for the score, and indeed it's great!

Can't believe we had not even one Young's release this year... frown
I keep my fingers crossed and pray for a complete score from "Urban Legend" by Intrada!!

Just caught this on Netflix Streaming. Reminded me a bit of The Hunted with Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. That movie was dreadful and this one isn't too much better - but the score by Young is absolutely terrific. There's a especially great bit of montage music as DeNiro is pulling himself back together after being wounded in the leg.

A real shame this wasn't put to disc; easily one of the best scores of 2013.

FYI that's included in the suite I posted above. starts at 7.00 approx.
Hopefully we'll get the CD when Varese's limited edition series is back.

Thanks a lot for the suite! Knowing Young's release policy I wouldn't be surprised if it turns up sonner or later, maybe as a promo. With these he's so far filled all the major gaps of his discography.

It's weird that this hasn't surfaced. Far more obscure films are getting their scores released these days. It is quite good, kinda like a hybrid of his rejected AN UNFINISHED LIFE score and Carter Burwell's FARGO.

Anyone have any info about this?

Yes, I thought the same when I heard it in the movie. There haven't been a lot of releases of recent Chris Young scores... I don't like it when there's a gap in his discography! smile

Just watched this movie yesterday and the music is amazing.
Christopher Young's music makes the film being better.

The score is one of the 2013's best indeed.
Unfortunately it was never released.
A shame.

Is there anything about the score album being planned to release?
Intrada?
La-La-Land?

Please release that wink

I have this in my Netflix queue and will be watching it tonight. I'll share my thoughts on how the score works in context thereafter...

I just watched this on Netflix last night (*Minor Spoilers* ahead).

Young's score is, indeed, VERY good. Such a lovely, "Earthen" main theme laden with Appalachian Americana - A theme of understated dignity and grace. A worthy spiritual cousin to his rejected UNFINISHED LIFE. That 10 minutes (!!!) end title roll, the first half of which plays over a montage of forest b-roll I assume the filmmakers rolled on before or after principal photography, is mesmerizing. I actually played back the entire 10 minutes again when it was over. A very graceful and unexpected close for a modern thriller!

I've never heard a cello played in such a fashioned as is heard throughout the score, almost fiddle-like. Very neat.

The film was nowhere near as bad as many have made it out to be, but John Travolta's casting was, indeed, just not right for the film at all. I just didn't buy him at all, and in a film where it's basically him and DeNiro for 95% of the screen time, that obviously presents a problem. The digital cinematography was often dodgy during action scenes (some real questionable color correction issues plague the film throughout, and I thought filmmaking had moved beyond shooting Day for Night back in the 70's!!!) and the power shifts between characters were too frequent. The "salty lemonade torture" scene was ridiculous. The scene in the abandoned church, almost as much. The whole pseudo-religious element felt odd and out of place for me through and through. There were other problems too, but none so egregious as the above.

I'm probably alone here but I actually liked the ending though - A lot. There was a good deal of humility to it, where they could have just ended it in a more black-and-white manner as we'd expect of a modern thriller (bad guy dies, good guy wins). It elevates the film somewhat above the fray in its gentle and human resolution. Young's main theme clearly speaks to what the heart of the film is about; It's obvious he just truly "got" what the makers were going for here, succeeding more adeptly with his music than does the film itself.

I'm sure this score will surface before too long. It's too good and Young has too strong a following for it not to emerge at some point.

Such a shame, that there is no score release out there... Listen to this:

The end credits is one of the most beautiful peaces of music I have ever heard in a soundtrack!
