Saw the trailer for this today. No voiceover no dialogue. Just music.

I don't know what the movie will be like. I know there were lots of things in Cars that I didn't get because I don't know cars or racing that well. But I know planes so this has me a little excited.

The music is lovely. Nice of them to give it such a front and center role in this trailer.

It's be nice if this was kind of an apology for Cars 2. smile

I always like Mancina's style. Hope they give him plenty of creative latitude with this one.

I saw PLANES over the weekeend. My advice is to stick with the score CD, since the score is the only worthwhile part of the film. The story is as basic as they come, and even the animation is nothing special. Maybe it would have been better if I had seen it in 3D, but that wasn't an option at my theater.

Planes: Fire & Rescue coming this July. Mark Mancina returning for the sequel. I really enjoyed his work on Planes, so looking forward to this. Hopefully it will get a CD release.

I've always liked the music of Mark Mancina.
Together with John Powell, he's the only composer from the Media Ventures stable I find much interest in.
His scores for Tarzan, Brother Bear, August Rush, Twister, parts of Speed and Bad Boys (and Lion King) are all great.
Anyway, I bought this CD awhile back, played it a few times and liked it. Then forgot about it.
I dug it out again today (in anticipation of his sequel score) and it's a real blast.
The main theme is great. A REAL theme...and memorable too.
Some nice Americana licks, power anthem/light rock-style action tracks, choral moments and a Love Theme obviously temped/inspired by Slumdog Millionaire.
Much better than I first noticed.
I hear the sequel score is less rock-flavoured, more classical sounding, which should be good.
So, anyway, it's been real hot today smile

Planes 3 was announced and supposedly "in the works" in 2013. I seem to recall it was going to involve fire/rescue boats. Which would've given us some some adventurous high seas action music. But there's been no word since then. Wonder if they dropped the project?
