And keeping this OT with that other thread Jerry Goldsmith absolutely LOVED "The Secret Of NIMH". The film itself inspired him to write an epic score. Jerry Goldsmith loved working on NIMH (and with Bluth Group) so much, it was he who suggested Steven Spielberg watch NIMH. Spielberg was so impressed with the film he hired Bluth Group to animate "An American Tail". I believe early on Jerry was going to score "Tail", but schedules conflicted.
If I am correct, Goldsmith loved Verhoeven's Total Recall and wrote a tremendous score for that movie. Full with little leitmotifs and nifty ideas woven throughout. (listen to the commentary on the DVD to find out more about their ideas)
Kudos to Verhoeven to push Jerry like that (as with Basic Instinct), because Verhoeven knew what Goldsmith was capable of... writing incredible music.
I picked this score up after seeing the movie in 1990.. it was my first soundtrack purchase!
Supposedly Goldsmith was a big fan of SUPERGIRL, and considered that one of his favorite assignments. Kind of bizarre, although his perspective might not be the same as an audience member.
I seem to recall David Newman proclaiming his love for The Sandlot and how much it reminded him of his own childhood. I think he said that, referring to his copy of the film while writing the score, he would frequently get so wrapped up in watching it that he'd forget he was supposed to be working.
