The interesting thing about Steve Forrest is that IMO he was a better actor and a better looking leading man than his much better known brother , Dana Andrews .
Why is his older brother better known? Because Andrews appeared in a number of classics such as THE OXBOW INCIDENT, LAURA , STATE FAIR, & THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES in the 40s. Nothing Forrest did is comparable.
It might also have to do with the period in which Forrest, born 15 years after his brother, came to prominenece as an actor - 50s - 90s. He had many more TV credits than film. The only movie classic he appeared in was THE LONGEST DAY and he was overshadowed by bigger stars. He had a great part as Joan Crawford's lover in MOMMIE DEAREST - another kind of classic.
Yesterday, MeTV ran episodes of Gunsmoke and Bonanza in a tribute to Steve Forrest. The Widowmaker was the last of four episodes where he was a guest-star, playing a legendary gunslinger who wanted to quit a life of killing. Forrest has a great exchange with a young upstart who pushes him into a fight;
