I've had a good listen and some will know I was a bit dubious about this new LLL release because the bad hiss in the Main Title hadn't been fixed. I haven't played it in direct comparison with the Intrada, but memory tells me there is some improvement. But the BIG difference here is the sound quality of the album tracks. These are now surprisingly good. That horrible bathroom reverb of old is tamed and what was horrible mushy sound is now rather good! So I'm well pleased to have got it.
The only drawback is particularly feeble notes where the writer simply spends time telling us what we can hear for ourselves, without need of her flowery waffle that adds up to nothing much more than telling us whether tracks are loud or soft or fast or slow. This is in absolute contrast to the excellent notes by other writers in LLL's The Challenge and Willard, which I received at the same time as Bandolero.

I notice the track list marks the Main Title Without Whistle with an *
Going down to the * at the bottom, it says "Previously Released". I assume it's meant to say "Previously Unreleased".

I second everything Basil has said about this score - I am just starting to discover Jerry Goldsmith and this is his first western score I have heard, but I am really enjoying this new La La Land release of "Bandolero!" Great score - great sound. Thanks to all at La La Land for making it available to us.

Thanks for confirming it's worth the upgrade. I was initially in two minds about upgrading as well (especially as I had paid a lot for the Intrada) but did order it in the end. Glad to hear it's worth it.

I played the LLL version the other night and had the same reaction as Basil. The main title is much improved. And it's nice to have to old LP version remastered.

My only initial reservation is the cue "He'll Cross It" -- I remember the timpani on the Intrada version simply blew me away; the LLL version seems a bit more tame. But I'll have to A/B the two properly to confirm.

That's all well and good, but are the FILM tracks sonically better than the Intrada release??????? I ask this because I actually e-mailed Doug and told him that the job he did on remaastering the score was jaw-dropping... sounding as though it was recorded digitially!
I just want to know if I should QUADRUPLE-dip for this!
Thoughts?!

Yes, the timpani is more powerful on the Intrada. However, on the same track, listen to the guitar at 1:24 to 1:32: nice and clear on the LLL - barely audible on the Intrada.

Something I wish BOTH releases had got right: the track “Maria’s Theme (Demo)” is relegated to the bonus tracks, but it is not a demo, it’s actual score for the scene where James Stewart talks to Raquel Welch on the balcony.

Hi Jim. Are the FILM tracks sonically better than the Intrada release? I don't know. Interesting question though. Over to the experts. Great score anyway. Love the LLL.

Interesting. So where should it appear in the track order of the main program?

Between "The Imposter" and "Procession To The Gallows."
