You left out Harry and Sidney in the title, El Bruco - that wouldve made all the difference!!

Apparently also Diahann Carroll, Ossie Davis, Sammy Davis Jr (pictured), Lena Horne and Paul Newman were there too.

Although the famous day included a musical performance by Joan Baez - one of the greatest crowd dispersers known to man!! Joan Baez - better than water cannon!!

A very worthwhile commemoration. For all the unpleasant shenanigans that certainly do go on in Hollywood, there is also a fine tradition of actors lending their names and faces to causes in which they really believe. Considering that they don't have to do so, and that they risk offending some audience members, it's a very proud tradition. Of course, honoring them does not minimize the efforts of all the not-famous people who marched that day, but those stars certainly made the world a little better by participating also.

I didn't leave them out because you would expect them to be there (and it would give away the 'plot' smile ). They had a long history of fighting for the rights of their brothers and sisters.
In 1963, it took guts for a white person of stature to speak up for civil rights.
It could adversely affect your career.

Thats a good point, and they were very brave. Although I was joking about adding two extra names to your already long list of names. Wished I could have studied American history, it always intrigued me, and we only got news clips when I was growing up. Couldnt take anything interesting like that when I was at school. Not even film studies.

Ah, now, Neo, Rosa Parks name I knew. Wasnt she the lady who refused to give up her seat on the bus, which sparked a boycott of the buses? I remember seeing a programme about this - it may have been The RocknRoll Years documentary series, not sure, which covered music and newsreel of each year from 55/56 until mid-seventies I think.

Betcha didn't know:

Most people think Mrs. Parks was arrested for refusing to leave the "whites only " section of the bus - which is bad enuf!
In fact, she was sitting in the "colored section" like she was "supposed to".

A white passenger boarded the bus only to find the 'white section ' full.
There was an enpty seat in the 'colored section" so he sat down there..
BUT....
Mrs. Parks happened to be sitting ACROSS FROM HIM, in the same row!
The driver had the gall to tell her she had to move out of her seat as to not be in the same row as a white man! Which meant she had to STAND UP!

This WAS America, people.
