I asked Nick Redman about the one key missing cue from The Detective on Facebook. He was kind enough to reply with the following in regards to the possibility of it being included on the Twilight Time Blu-Ray's isolated score track:
"Well, it was left off those releases because we did not have it among the sessions...however, if all else fails we'll get it from the M&E for the isolated score."
Great news for me and any other Goldsmith completists out there!
Good question. Neither The Detective nor Von Ryan's Express had corresponding LPs at the times of their distribution, so perhaps these titles should be issued onto vinyl to fill the gaps.
I'd like a revised album program for The Detective to be presented on vinyl record with the 'murder by ashtray' music missing from the CD versions. This would truly aggravate the Goldsmith bottle-cap collectors.
Guess I need to be more on top of these things. I somehow managed to nab the ultra-fast sellout of the re-release of Journey to the Center of the Earth but can't seem to manage the releases that have been out for years.
Honesty, what this comes down to is finding a balance between the bills and the scores. If it weren't for a lot of the wonderful releases sitting on my shelf right now then I'd have a credit card bill paid off
I was re watching this film on Disney+ and noticed for the first time there is a missing cue from the album for Von Ryan’s Express. After the short take over of the train cue Sinatra and co look back on the German troop train that is on the same line and there is an aggressive variation of his suspense music. Admittedly very short at under a minute but I did think the album was complete. Obviously lost to the ages.
