I like both versions of the finale, although I don't like how the Special Edition version is edited in the film (on disc, the one track concludes before the end title begins, which works better for me). Neither are really in the language of the rest of the scores, and so add a different sound to the saga's conclusion. The newer version definitely has a more epic feel to it, but I also like the original, particularly the less chattering film version, because it has a euphoric quality to it the more jaded revision lacks.

I believe I read when the deal was struck that the original Star Wars movies are still owned for distribution by 20th Century Fox FOX owns Episode IV. The rest were independently funded by Lucas and only released through Fox. Actually, 20th Century Fox did own the original movie itself for the first twenty years of its existence, but Lucas / Lucasfilm finagled the ownership away around the time of the SEs (though supposedly not when the SE was released theatrically, but instead somewhere in the window between that and the video release, somehow). Jedi Rocks is also remarkable for being the only piece of music in the Star Wars franchise (to this date) not composed by Williams. Obviously if you get into Clone Wars, Droids, Ewoks, etc, that changes, but in the canon movie series, it's just Jedi Rocks Well, that and the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, of course.

Was there ever a preliminary ROTJ double LP cue listing? I remember passing on the single LP because I had been spoiled by the previous two LP releases. I guess the 1993 Arista CD could be considered as such but that and my hoped-for release of an ESB CD of the old 2-LP set are grist for other threads. I posted a thread asking the same question ages ago. I also asked people to come up with their own 2 LP mix. Nobody quite matched the crazy mix and match that Star Wars and Empire had. It was pretty much existing tracks with people's favorites added to the 1983 LP.

I came up with several different "double LP" variations, all of which were totally *bogged down* by those boring concert suites, "Luke and Leia" and "Parade of the Ewoks", which I felt should be included, since John Williams specifically recorded them for LP release. Man, I hate to say it, as I love STAR WARS, but this score really cries out for an "Imperial March"-type track; it's the most sluggish of the Original Trilogy film scores. Third time's not always the charm, I guess... I ended up with a track listing without any of the concert suites, which was actually much more enjoyable.

If you have it handy, could you post that track listing? Hi, Jim. I'm actually cleaning my apartment and going through stuff right now. If I come across my notebook where I keep such stuff listed, or if I find the actual CD-R I made, I'd be happy to list the tracks I included. I'll definitely keep an eye out. However, keep in mind, my tastes might be very different from yours. I think the final version I came up with was kind of a hybrid, using both the Anthology and the 2-disc Special Edition, so some people might not like minor sound differences... ADDED APRIL 10, 2013: Haven't found the "Suites-less" version but here's the version I like best which DOES contain the suites, Jim. It runs 79:43 and uses the Anthology Disc 3 as its main source. 1) 20th Century Fox Fanfare (optional) :23 2) Main Title 5:22 3) Fight In the Dungeon 3:42 4) Luke and Leia 4:48 5) The Emperor Arrives 2:08 6) Han Solo Returns (album version) 4:10 7) Parade of the Ewoks 3:27 8) Into the Trap 2:39 9) The Death of Yoda 6:06 10) Heroic Ewok (inserted from disc 4) 3:08 11) Through the Flames 1:39 12) Lapti Nek (inserted from disc 4) 2:50 13) The Forest Battle (suite version) 4:05 14) Leia Breaks the News / Funeral Pyre for a Jedi (album version) 2:23 15) The Emperor Confronts Luke 3:29 16) Darth Vader's Death 2:34 17) First Ewok Battle / Fight With the Fighters 7:24 (I call it "The Battle Begins") 18) The Final Duel / Into the Death Star 3:40 19) The Emperor's Death 2:45 20) Return of the Jedi (sometimes called "Sail Barge Assault") 5:03 21) Ewok Celebration and Finale (album version) 7:58 The "sides" run 20:33, 19:49, 19:55 and 19:26 respectively. Hope this is something like what you were interested in, Jim. I'll keep looking for my *other* notebook which might have the "suites-less" sequencing line-up in it. Apologies to the original poster for going (more than) a little off topic...

The best discussions come with a bit of off-topic content thrown in.
