I wonder why Copland composed two of his own dances when there are so many great classical ones available?

Yeah, why would the composer of Rodeo and Appalachian Spring want to compose his own dances? smile

I think Sco-ho is posting just to bump up the thread

What a terrible thing it would be to keep this thread alive for a while so that it might result in a score release. I'm so ashamed of myself.

as I've indicated a desire for a release, seems you missed the point. I only suggested to Yavar that the content of your posts was less meaningful than the act of posting.

Less meaningful? I asked a question about Copland's music. I didn't ask what he ate for breakfast. How is that less meaningful? I killed two birds with one stone - genuinely wanted my question answered, and threat was sent to the top of the list.

Score Whore, you have to admit the not too meaningfulness of your question: why Copland composed his own dances. Which is the same "Why Copland composed his own music for the movie"! Or even "Why Verdi composed classical music, existing Wagner". As Last Child, I also thought you were only bumping the thread, looking to hear from bmsatter for a HEIRESS project. In any case, these are minor details: the important is a possibile release of this (for me) Grail.

I'm curious as to why he only wrote two dances, why not all of them? It's a legitimate question in a thread about a film score.

Score Whore, my apologies if you're taking this as criticism. I guess it was your post before that one - about wanting a CD release with OST at the start, source cues at the end (which is how releases generally are anyway) that gave me the notion you were posting just to bump up the thread. And as I said, I'm fine with bumping. Hey, we're doing it right now! wink

And just to give another bump, Score Wore, look at the difference between your
"I wonder why Copland composed two of his own dances when there are so many great classical ones available?"
and
"I'm curious as to why he only wrote two dances, why not all of them?".
