Cars 2, as much of a cash grab as it was, was at least better than half of DreamWorks' soulless and merchandise-driven output. If anything, I'd rather watch it than How to Train Your Dragon (which though decent, is vastly overrated and would have worked better as a horror film where Hiccup trains Toothless to kill the people who have tormented him). But as said earlier, Powell simply follows the motions and doesn't attempt to try something new. Even his best score in my opinion (Rio) is derivative of Alan Silvestri's work. If there is any composer undeserving of the praise that he or she gets, it's Powell. I couldn't disagree more. HTTYD a great film and so is HTTYD 2 to a slightly lesser extent. They are both better than nearly all of Pixar's output, save a couple of films perhaps. And both scores are easily better than anything Pixar has to offer. I feel the exact same way about The Prince of Egypt as a film and score. Dreamworks as a whole is rather underrated. Sure, they're not as consistently good as Pixar is (was) but when they're good, they're really good. You took the words right out of my mouth! Pixar is seriously over-rated and I think they have the weakest animation scores in the business. And I mean from 1930's to present.
