After spending almost three years in near seclusion (only scoring a segment on PBS's Frontline and a short film), John Murphy will be releasing an album sometime in April. Originally intended to be released sometime in September, it looks like that something held up that date but hopefully things will be settled by April so it doesn't miss that date.

Details on the album: it is based on an unfinished rejected score that Murphy wrote in 1992-93 (he cannot name the film for legal reasons) but Murphy got access to the masters and decided to finish the score the way he intended it. Should be interesting.

I just checked my own site, because nothing was ringing a bell, and sure enough, I didn't find any rejected score by him from that year, or any possible ones from that year range on Supposedly.

So, it beats me! But I'm sure if I put enough effort into it, I could find it out. Heavy on the "if".

I looked at your site too but nothing was listed. My best guess is The Young Americans (which was scored by David Arnold) but I don't know.

The name of the film shall never be revealed for legal reasons. Let's leave it at that.

Keep an eye out for Film Score Montly Online to get an in-depth coverage of ANO when it comes out.

It may be an interesting job to try and fit the music to film plots when we hear it.

Ouch! I hope he doesn't really calls it "Ano", wich is the spanish for "anus". Well, yes, in a way it kinda fits the concept of "rejected", but still... it's so gross smile

Ano is short for Anonymous. [No, Anonymous has nothing to do with the plot of the film]

The short for Anonymous is Anon.

Before I knew it's from an early 90's score, I figured it would be his rejected score for Crossing Over.

Anyway, really looking forward to this one. I think Murphy is quite an underrated composer. Love his scores for 28 Days/Weeks Later, Sunshine and Miami Vice.

It is CROSSING OVER. Murphy must be using the fake date to hide its origins. I've heard from an undisputed source that ANO is and was CROSSING OVER.

Well, we'll find out. Murphy's compositional abilities were not what they are now, back then, so the score will either date itself, or sound more like today's efforts.

Heck, I stumbled upon an interview while doing some breif research on this mystery title, where he said words to the affect of: any director who hired him back when he started scoring, was a fool/or crazy.

Well, it's May and I saw no announcement in April.

So any news on this one? It's a shame we haven't heard anything new from Murphy in quite some time. While watching Gravity, there were a couple of times I though Murphy would have been perfect for it.

Murphy posted that this is a single from the score:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/1-2-3-4-single/id785478649

I don't use iTunes, so I can't say if that links to a cue from the whole thing, or if he's just for now released one track.

I'm actual friends with Mr. Murphy. Here's exactly what he wrote:

"Hey *****.

Hope all's well. Here's a little tune we're putting out today called 1-2-3-4. First release from 'anonymous rejected filmscore'.

All the best,
John."

And according to other emails we've shared, it is indeed finally going to be released.

I've like all his work [Sunshine and Armored are my favorites with Millions and Miami Vice close behind] and it sounds very current and a nice hybrid of distortion and guitars.

I love it and can't wait to hear more.

Hopefully SUNSHINE will get a release beyond iTunes!

Thanks, but he wants to contact him to score his film, not licensing music.
In case you can help, my email is cdelelee@gmail.com
