I just watched this again yesterday and once again realize that animation is excellent and the score as well. But I have an unusual exception, I just cannot stand the football march riff that Silvestri scored on that egg chase scene at the start of the movie. I think it does not work at all. The rest of his score is sweet and sweeping and interesting and excellent. I wonder if anyone else felt this way?

I do. I can take or leave the egg scene's music. I'd hope he did a different cue originally, but I guess not, otherwise it would have been on the CD.

That is good to know, thanks Justin. I thought maybe I had lost it since AS is such a great composer. I wonder if this was the first piece for him try to crack-the-code on this score?

Not exactly an accident: https://news.usc.edu/48233/usc-band-members-learn-a-prehistoric-lesson/

It's meant to look and sound like a football game.

Yeah, I still don't like it though.
It seems like he was looking for a method to integrate a USC football march now, which confirms my reaction that it does not fit naturally within the movie. It seems forced and non cohesive with the tapestry of the rest of the score. Yeah, I get that the egg scene is being compared to a football game. Scoring it like a football march was a choice in obviousness that does not work and it actually draws a lot of attention to the music itself, and away from the movie.

This is mentioned in the article, but the music in the scene in question is so different from the rest of the score because it's an adaptation of the marching band segment from "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac (albiet, a super-lame, watered down arrangement):

For some reason was inspired to dust this one off today. What a sensational score! CAPTAIN AMERICA, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2, THE WALK, COSMOS... Silvestri has produced some outstanding music in recent years. What's next for him?

What's next for him?

Rumor has it that he's returning to the Marvel world for at least one of the upcoming AVENGERS films.

He's also attached to the new Zemeckis film titled Allied and... The Croods 2 smile

Allied, both upcoming Avengers and The Croods 2... he should be busy enough during next few years smile

Bad news, "Croods 2" has been cancelled.
