Release date: 26 February 2013 Digitmovies with the collaboration of Sugar Group are honored to make available this premiere release of the complete score as a tribute to the musical genius of Miklós Rózsa, following the 2CD set of SODOM AND GOMORRAH which we produced in January 2007 on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of this beloved composer. To realize this ambitious project, we utilized a first-generation, full-stereo master tape of the original LP soundtrack album, augmented by first-generation stereo masters (preserved in the Sugar Music archives). In addition to the fifteen tracks (35:48) from the album presentation (released in France on Pema Music 900 057 and reissued on CD in Italy, Japan and the United States) our CD includes, as bonus tracks, all the remaining cues from the master tapes (17:25) giving a total time of 53:13 to the delight of Rózsaphiles around the world. With the assistance of Doug Raynes from The Miklós Rózsa Society (www.miklosrozsa.org), we wanted to produce a deluxe edition digipack that would pay homage not only to the wonderful musical artistry of the legendary Miklós Rózsa but to the great director Alain Resnais and a film that has left its mark on the history of international cinema. Providence was a multi-award winner at the 1978 César Awards, including Best Music, Best Film and Best Director. Sir John Gielgud also won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor. Wow. One of my holy grails for an extended release. A gorgeous score. Hope it stays around for a while as I am extended pretty thin at the moment.

I'm really excited to get another complete Rozsa score but I'm a bit worried about the sound quality/engineering because Sodom and Gomorrah should (and apparently could) have been a lot better in that department (the expanded RCA LP it was based on supposedly had far superior sound quality). That caveat stated, as a huge Rozsa fan I think I'm definitely in for a copy as we're unlikely to see this issued from anywhere else in the near future. Yavar P.S. Oh yeah, and I too would *far* prefer not to have a digipak!

With the complete release of Providence I'm feeling a "What Rozsa scores are left to expand?" thread coming on in the near future...it'll be a pretty easy job and short list, thanks to FSM! Probably mostly just 30s and 40s stuff that doesn't survive any more but could possibly get a re-recording... Yavar

I hope it sounds better than their job on Sodom and Gomorrah... That is one of the most poorly mastered albums I own.

My concern as well, but hopefully they learned from their error? I guess I might wait and see what people say about the sound quality on this one... Yavar

They should provide some clips. Having heard a second generation tape of the complete score, which sounded excellent, I can't imagine this wouldn't sound much better than that if they master it well. This is something that was brought to me two years ago, but I honestly could not find anyone over there in Italy who could speak one word of damn English and so I gave up. I'm glad to see it's coming out - a great Rozsa score. Not quite sure why they didn't just combine the tracks into proper sequence as they play really well that way, but I guess we can do that ourselves courtesy of iTunes.

I just visited SAE to order it. Is there a good reason why SAE is asking $23.95 for this single CD? That's $4 more than their normal Digitmovies single CD price. Well, it could have cost a bit more then usual to license? Why not ask them yourself DigitSoundtracks Via G. Pisano 9 65124, Pescara, Italy Telephone: +39 085 47 18 032 FAX: +39 085 76 341 E-mail: info@digitmovies.com This might be a good way to get your question answered. Ford A. Thaxton
