Furthermore, I have to say that I love the fat, rich quality of the snare drums in DH3. Anyone else agree? Check out 2:00-3:42 of "Yankee Stadium/School and Tunnel" for example, or the non-alt version of "Fake Cops". Another great example is during the above mentioned track "The Subway Pt. 1", alongside that deep piano ostinato. Not sure how the snares are different, nor can I prove that they are, but they just sound much more resonant and powerful, particularly when held up to the snares of DH2 ("Marching to the Annex" or "Chasing the Jet" for example) or DH1 ("Assault on the Tower"). Not that I'm complaining one bit, I just liked that the snares were beefed up for part 3. Maybe a different type of snare, maybe some processing was done, maybe it was the session player, maybe all 3...

I thought this too. I also love how he wines "Johnny Comes Marching Home" into the score so well. I actually prefer this score over the original Die Hard album which is saying a lot cause I'm in love with that one too.

It's unbelievable how much of the music is chopped up and spread around

It wouldn't be a Die Hard score if it wasn't! wink

DH2 plays in the film like the 2CD presentation plays on album. For the others, it's a McTeirnan thing. Take Predator, Hunt for Red October, Last Action Hero and The 13th Warriors as other great examples of post chop down.

McTiernan had nothing to do with the post production of The 13th Warrior, Michael Crichton took over and he hired Goldsmith. Haven't seen the film in ages, but if I remember correctly the music wasn't really chopped up.

Back on topic, watched the film yesterday again for the first time since I bought all three soundtracks. First time I noticed that the "surfing in the aquaduct" scene used music from the first film.

No Die Hard with a Vengeance fan edit is complete without "Taxi Chase" smile

Or "Bank Invasion"

Or "Running In The Halls"

Or "The Subway (Part 1)"

Or "Holly/Celebration"

OK I'll stop lol

Just ordered this from Lalalands site. To complete my Kamen Die Hard trilogy. I never had the original RCA album so I never had the pleasure of major disappointment. smile

Congrats, Henry. Be sure not to overlook the outtakes and alternates. There’s some really interesting stuff in there, especially “Escape”

Make sure to crank up the volume for Ode to Johnny! It's probably one of the most amazing cues for Die Hard ever and needs to be blasted full volume to be appreciated!

And if I remember the liner notes correctly, it wasn't even used in the movie!

Can anyone help with a query that's always puzzled me about the Die Hard with a Vengeance OST?

The cue entitled "Surfing in the Aqueduct" is not the one from that sequence in the movie: the one in the movie is quite different and has a quick blast of 'Singin' in the Rain' in it.

Where does that cue come from (it's definitely a piece by Michael Kamen) and does it appear in any soundtrack release of the Die Hard series?

Thanks.

The film version of Surfing the Aqueduct sounds like it was cobbled together from the first Die Hard score.

Yes, it’s all from “Assault On The Tower”.
