I would second the theme for Peter in The Robe, though I'm now wondering if (as Bill Finn seemed to suggest) the solo occurs only on the Decca album and not in the film. If so, it's one more instance of a composer's second thoughts improving on the original.
Too bad so many of the YouTube links in this old thread are no longer working, but I thought I would revive it to share a new favorite piece. As my Joe Hisaishi odyssey of discovery continues, one of the cues that stopped me dead in my tracks was "Cave of Mind" from HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE. Here is the image album version:
I love the slightly world-weary, melancholy tone of this beautiful cue, a real standout for me.
Michele Lacerenza's trumpet solo from "A Fistful Of Dollars", it's just tremendous.
Indeed it is.
I get the love for this but for me it's pipped to the post by 'The Slaughter' from A Pistol for Ringo. It's like the one from Fistful's better brother, lol. It has a magic bit of intensity about 56 seconds in that blows the other one out of the water.
Special mention for the Green Hornet too. That's excellent precision playing.
