In Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS there is a scene where an astronaut is trapped in a cave
on an alien planet. He is stranded there with another crew member and can not get back to his ship. It is dark and one can hardly see anything.

Suddenly, a slimy snake -like creature slithers nearby. It raises its head and stares at the astronaut.
If you were him would you:

a. take a closer look
b. run like hell
c. take a weapon out
d. ACT LIKE IT'S A kitten , go up to it ,reach out your hand ,whispering "aw , come here little fella, don"t be afraid i won't hurt you" and touch it?
e. ask yourself "what would Tall Guy do?

If I recall, the character in the film did D.
I would do a combination of B and C.
But then, I would outlive the script's intention for my character, and get fired.

Oh well...

I would substitute Dennis Nedry complete with famous last words directly into the movie at that point because:

a. Nedry has more technical knowledge on display than portrayed by BOTH astronauts in Prometheus and, therefore, seems appropriate as an example of what not to do when confronted with DNA supersampled dinothingies.

b. It's amusing to know that when you end up as dinner when you might well have avoided the issue altogether, the thingy justifiably gets to enjoy dinner at it's leisure.

So sorry, Mr M.

It's the scene from Jurassic Park where Nedry is attempting to pass on dinosaur DNA to corporate rivals at the Isla Nublar dock. He never makes it there because he meets his . . . ancestor . . . and has a STICKY end.

But you know, the facility built by the Jockey Engineers in Prometheus could very easily be a Jurassic Park in itself, where exhibits have themselves gone and mopped up the motley crew supposedly presiding over them. Nedry is an intelligent guy with a penchant for being unbelievably stupid and given that part of the plot from Prometheus is nothing less than Jurassic Park the connection just seemed favourable to me.

Edit: years ago, I studied math. When you study group theory, you come across isomorphisms. That's when two things can be regarded as identical even though some aspects of what they are comprised look superficially different. Movie plots are very much like that (unfortunately) and so this is where I am coming from.

Thats true - that scene was fairly 'groanifying', in that we (playing one of the roles ourselves) are stranded for X time in an alien environment. At the moment, we are standing around, biding our time, in what is - even without [SPOILER] the snake goop - easily the most hazardous or potentially hazardous area we have yet discovered. Animate living goop in an ominous container-laden chamber... [END SPOILER] how about we seek out the area of our environment with the *FEWEST* potentially harmful unknown features? The blandest terrain we can find, which will offer the greatest possibility of uneventfulness? Why as supposed intelligent scientists can this not occur to us? Why as supposed intelligent viewers of old Earth 'vids' (!) can we not make the merest attempt to avoid a horrible cliche demise?

Plus B and C.

Of course, thats the REASONABLE angle. As for what TallGuy would do... well... thats an entirely different matter. Entirely.

e) he would probably bend down and stamp on it.

whilst singing Marching on Together.*

*for those unfamiliar with this famous but poignant theme, it is a Leeds chart song sung by the likes of Paul Reaney, Norman Hunter, allan clarke for some FA cup final release years ago when the word dirty went before the other two words. ha ha

And the answer is........ e

I've arrived at that conclusion because I've clearly survived this long, having encountered some of the scariest and most inhospitable and inhuman situations known to man - including (but not limited to) the UK insurance market, Newcastle upon Tyne on a Friday neet, the Marks & Spencers sandwich counter at Brent Cross and a Saturday afternoon at Upton Park.

If you answered e, you go into a prize draw to win an evening out with Bruce Marshall. Second prize is two evenings.

The answer can only be A. You're an actor with a small part in a not very good movie (controversial!), tagged to die first in a cliched old haunted house scenario (you couldn't be anymore doomed if you were showing pictures of your kids in a war movie!). You can only follow the script, take the money & run.

...Newcastle upon Tyne on a Friday neet, the Marks & Spencers sandwich counter at Brent Cross and a Saturday afternoon at Upton Park.

Yep, many a football fan has run the length of Green Street faster than Usain Bolt running the 4 x 400 on his own!

Or kinda like Cornel Wilde in the Naked Prey!!

*Small fact but the visitors end to Upton Park tube station is actually a few yards over 600 metres, so you need plenty of stamina. Or in TG's case - long strides!!

Cinemascope - actors showing photos of their kids - love it!!
Before 1963 - and mostly during 50s British warfilms - these were always Cockney corporals.
Until Michael Caine and Terence Stamp made it trendy to be a Cockney lead!
