There is a brief discussion of Maleficent's theme, with musical notation: http://mshawblog.wordpress.com/ I agree with Steve Vertlieb and found the film an extremely interesting take on the story, and the score suits it quite well. I know the composer produced the album, so I assume that the sequencing of the tracks on the album is his, alternating dark battle cues with the lighter, more magical faerie-land music. I'd be curious if the proper film sequence of the tracks might make for an even more rewarding listening. Does any one know the correct film order of the cues?

To anyone's who seen the film: is the Suite in the film? Does it play as an overture? EDIT: Never mind, I see from Jon's review that it plays over the end credits. In that case the jwfan site has the chronological order wrong -- unless the post-song end credits is a reprise. If Jon's review is correct and if the end title is the first time that the suite is heard in the film, it's hard to "hold the audience in the palm of your hand" if they've exited the theater: "In the film it forms the second half of the end credits (after the Lana Del Rey song), but on CD it provides a wonderful introduction to most of the score’s main themes, including an elongated performance of the see-sawing four-note choral motif for Maleficent’s curse, before exploding into glorious spine-tingling majesty just after the 4-minute mark. Music like this showcases everything that is good about James Newton Howard, and also acts as a master class in how to hold an audience in the palm of your hand, building the tension and building the tension, before allowing the emotional rush of musical adrenaline they have been craving."
