Don't know about you guys but there is something just great about having a leather jacket. Stylish, comfortable and warm, they just become like an old friend.

Got my first one in '84 - a very cheap, badly made sandblasted bomber jacket which I just loved. And over the years as it got more beaten up, I loved it even more. I wore it all the time, everywhere. Sadly as my middle age spread started to.. well, spread, I got too big for the jacket although its still in the family, handed down to my son.

Its been a few years but I've finally decided to go for a new one - seen a nice Hugo Boss bomber jacket. But I know it will take a few years of wearing and abusing before it gets sufficiently beaten up to replace my old faithful one in my heart.

I've got a beaten up Banana Republic bomber jacket from circa 1984 that I'm hoping to hand down to my kids when they're old enough. It's just a little too short in the arms for me these days, which is sort of odd, but, oh well, there you go.

I got myself a nice black, lambskin leather jacket about ten years ago that is my new favorite.

Oh! And I bought one a couple years prior to that one which looks (to my mind) a lot like Timothy Dalton's in Living Daylights, which I'd long admired. Sadly, it's just about a size too big (was the only one and got it anyway) so I don't wear it as much as I'd like.

Meanwhile, I would love to have this one:

I love leather jackets. I got a pretty sweet one when Mervyns was closing around here for a massive discount. It is pretty good quality and nice soft leather. I also have a nice leather vest I got a few years ago. It's about that time of the year again when I get to wear my leather jacket out wherever I go big grin

I have a weather beaten US Wings jacket that I had to hang up when one of the cuffs tore maybe a quarter of an inch. Been meaning to replace it but money is tight when you buy movie soundtracks and pimp in the suburbs.

I don't get romantically involved with them, Mike smile, but I've had three in the last 20 years or so and still wear them all on different occasions.

The first was a three-quarter length grey jacket with detachable sleeves (which I never detached) - with a touch of irony I bought it because the detachable sleeves were long enough for me (my arms are longer than a morning of daytime television). It's lost buttons, got tears in the lining and holes in the pocket - and I still wear it sometimes to football in cold weather, or to clear snow.

The second was a similarly-proportioned black jacket, which is now fading and crazed, and will shortly be as battered as the grey one.

The third is bomber-length, again grey, but this one is a beautifully supple pigskin. I do like them worn in, but I also like to have one "for best", and over the next year or two will need another. I tend to stumble across them rather than set out to buy them - and it's so rare that I find one to fit that I'll just buy it when I find one. It's as if they're made for me and wouldn't fit anyone else.

I have two leather jackets, and I love when the cool months come around each year so that I can get them out of the closet and start wearing them again.

The first was a Christmas present from my parents in 1994. My dad had a leather bomber-style jacket he bought in the 1980s that I loved and wore occasionally, but he still wore it often so they got me my own. Considering it's now nearly 18 years old, it's held up remarkably well considering I wore the hell out of it in high school and college. The little plastic piece that holds the bottom of the zipper in place is broken, though, so sometimes it's a little hard to get zippered. Not sure if that's fixable or not.

The second I bought about seven years ago. I was at Sears and found a whole bunch of them on a clearance rack. It's an Arizona Jean jacket and is more of a motorcycle jacket style. But because it looks like the one Mel Gibson wore in Lethal Weapon 4 I just had to get it.

Naturally, I have nicknamed this jacket "The Riggs." big grin

I'd have to be a former navy seal/wrestler/governor to be able to pull the leather jacket style off.

Also a shout out to a classic from the 90s

Speaking of cool leather jackets, the official CAPCOM Biohazard 4 Leon Bomber Jacket is back in stock for a limited time at PlayAsia. If I had $350 to spare for a luxury item such as this, it would be mine, oh yes, it would be mine.
