I tracked down a copy of his score for BOTTE DI NATALE aka Troublemakers aka The Night Before Christmas this week for 20 Euro online from a shop in Spain.
I'd noticed the title in an old thread that floated around here last week and after some investigation, I thought I'd take a gamble on it, as it was a rare western score by Pino.
I already owned his two other western scores on CD, Amore Piombo E Furore (China 9 Liberty 37) and Il Mio West (Gunslinger's Revenge) and like how they play out.
China 9 always makes me think of Missouri Breaks via Spaghetti Western style scoring and Il Mio West is a bit of a mixed bag, merging traditional style scoring with some modern/new age devices.
Well, this one has to be Donaggio's most underrated classic score hardly anyone ever heard!
It's brimming with lush romantic themes, BIG western style scoring, some darker chase cues and also his light, fun, bucolic scoring, evident in his comedy scores. It also has a bonkers Christmas song featuring Choir, bells and guitar which doesn't fit with the rest of the score but is a laugh nonetheless.
The CD runs 65 minutes and opens with two songs performed by the singer from the group Berlin. They're not that great, typical Euro soft-rock ditties that pass by without too much trouble but are hardly memorable. The next 55 minutes are pure Pino, sounding similar to his earlier work from the late 70's and early 80's (basically before he let Paolo Steffan add too much harsh electronics to many of his scores).
If you like Donaggio from that Golden Period and you get lucky, like me, and track down a copy for a reasonable price, I would urge you unreservedly to pick one up and wallow in that classic Donaggio sound. This is his most Americana western sounding score EVER!!

I have a CD-R of this score, given by a friend, and it is indeed a great listen.
Lots of funs tracks in a variety of styles. Great main theme too!
I would agree it's the best of the 3 western scores that I have by him, the other two being China 9 Liberty 37 and Il Mio West. Although I also love those other two as well.
