Hmmmm....big fuss going on over this....

It seems that there are several issues (ranging in importance) with the UK DVD/BR release of The Avengers (sorry - "Marvel's Avengers Assemble").

Firstly - the DVD and Blu contains what might appear to be a significant edit - Agent Coulson's death scene - Loki's spear protruded from his chest in the Theatrical version....not any more it doesn't. Disney first tried to explain this by saying it was required for the 12 Certificate....the BBFC basically said "You what? News to us...would even be illegal if a version of the film is being distributed that we haven't approved". Disney UK then finally confirmed that they had made a cock-up and used the wrong master for the UK home-media releases. Whoooooops....watch this space to see how this turns out....

...and - just to piss us off slightly more....there are hardly any extras....unlike the US releases which seem chock full, we have no commentaries, pretty-much no nothing. If we want anything substantial, we have to import the US (thankfully region-free) Blu. Pretty piss-poor treatment, I have to say...I mean - I'm not THAT attached to masses of extras, but it ould be nice to have the same treatment as our friends across the pond? And a full version of the movie too??

Apparently, the US version also has TWO scenes during the credits...we got the first one, but second one is missing....and was missing in our theatrical cut too! Damn...

Please don't be sorry; I never call it by its silly, stupid, pointless British title. Buena Vista is the one that should be apologising... (Interesting fact: there are two TV series called Stingray, the Gerry Anderson one and an '80s series from the late, great Stephen J. Cannell. Both have been shown on British television, and the American one got to keep its name because it was blatantly obvious the two couldn't be confused!)

Apparently the other credits scene hadn't been finished when the film was released in the UK (remember, other countries got it before the US did).

Although the US DVD release is Region 1, the blu ray is region free so I'm importing my copy.

There was apparently a segment in the BBC program Watchdog (haven't seen segment). It's a consumer affairs program that chases up things like this, dodges scams and so on. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

Btw what is the other post credits scene?

That's the one...but I'm confused...I saw an apology from them that it wasn't on the UK DVD because it wasn't "available to them" - yet I've just watched the DVD and it's on there?....good grief....what a little mess.....

I don't know a single person who has referred to it by it's ridiculous UK title...I mean - it's just...stupid with a capital B. Didn't know about that Stingray thing though!

Got my US import on Friday and watched it tonight - complete with proper title, the uncut death of Coulson and the shawarma scene. Only cost a few bob more than the flawed British blu ray with the silly title.

And thoroughly enjoyed the movie again. I liked it a lot when I saw it on general release but tonight I just adored it. Could easily watch it again right away and if it wasn't a "school night" I probably would.

Great movie. Hawkeye rocks!!! Can't wait for the sequel.

Thats what it was called in the UAE too when I saw the film in Dubai.

I actually like that title though, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE

We rented the film via Virgin Media over the weekend and got the version with two sequences during the credits. The second was very funny.

Yeah - that bit has become confusing....Disney DVD apologised for the omission of the schwarma (speling? We don't call it that over here....) scene from the UK DVD, but they didn't omit it...it's there...so, I guess that's a bit of a bonus...

Yeah, I was coming on to say, for all its flaws, the UK Blu-ray does include the schwarma scene. First time I'd seen it outside of poor youtube footage.

Was this rectified or is this still the current version in the UK?

Were the problems ever sorted out?

Ha! Am I the only one to click on this thread thinking it was about the British tv series about the adventures of John Steed and his various girl partners?

But yes, I absolutely hated the title change. Those of us old enough to remember the tv series are not so stupid that we don't know the difference, and those who are too young are unlikely to have heard of the tv show.

I grew up in the 60s (we're looking at 6-8), and watched the series AND read the comic books, and knew they were two completely separate entities.

More importantly does the UK have "Avengers XXX" unedited?

No. A parenthetical "Marvel" in the thread title would be helpful. Not being familiar with the movie, I don't understand anything in the initial post.
