Just watched this new animated movie from DC, based on the Frank Miller comic. Loved the movie & the score.

Any chance those fine folks at LaLaLand are working on a cd of Christopher Drake's music, or is it a case of having to wait for Part 2 of the movie to come out to get a 'complete' soundtrack release?

So, Part II is about to be released on blu & dvd. Having seen it, I can say it's just as good as part I & Mr Drake's score continued to be quite superb.

Any hope of a score release?

I've lost hope that we'll see these. We got scores for the first eight of these movies (Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman: Gotham Knight, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, and Batman: Under the Red Hood) and then releases dried up. We did get DC Showcase which got my hopes up for a while, but TDKR Pt. 2 is the eighth straight animated feature without a score release. Total bummer, because all of those scores are really great!

I fear you may be right. Perhaps they just don't sell well enough? The titles that LaLaLand have released do seem to drop in price & end up in their bargain selection. (Drake's awesome Wonder Woman score is a steal at $4.98!)

I thought the score for Part 1 was very disappointing. It's mostly just atmospheric and only very rarely actually audible in the movie.

It is a steal for a great soundtrack. Maybe people are put off by it being a cartoon and won't give it a chance. Plus there are those that will only buy scores for things they've seen and if they don't want to watch a Wonder Woman cartoon then they aren't going to buy the CD.

Shame as it is a brilliant score... But if they don't sell then you can see why LLL aren't releasing any more.

completely agree. the lack of releases on all the recent string of pretty much all excellent movies is a real disappointment. You'd think there'd at least be some download onlys.

I mailed MV about it back on 10/8 and got this reply from him:

"We would love to do it

MV"

The question is IF he can do it, or WaterTower has another idea of their own.

I'm hoping that LLLR could release both parts someday if possible someday. The music that covers the confrontation between Batman and Joker at the carnival really nailed the intensity of that scene. I think it's part of the reason why I was on the edge of my seat during that scene. Other than the chaos Joker was ensuing on screen.

Hopefully LaLaLand can release the score to coincide? Please please please?

Perhaps the question should be put to the composer himself DIRECTLY

You can reach him on twitter

or his facebook page

Why don't one of you brave souls ask the man what the hold up is?

Anyone?

I have been incredibly underwhelmed by the majority of films in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line. But The Dark Knight Returns is one I've actually been eager to check out. I had been waiting for Part 2's release so I could watch them together, but now that I see this "Deluxe Edition" is coming out, I'll just wait for that.

MV himself said they would love to release Drake's work, but the composer just hasn't delivered the goods to LLL. Last I heard, that was the only holdup. MV did say if we wanted Drake's music released, comment on his Facebook page. I did once or twice myself.

Somebody should tell Christopher Drake to check out these boards and see all the clamoring for his music!

Drake's score to The Dark Knight Returns will be released in iTunes October 8th!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/batman-dark-knight-returns/id711828022

It seems to be organized into 2 discs (1 per film), because the track numbers restart after 22. Here's hoping for a physical release!
