I bought this the other day and am finally getting a chance to listen to it. I am not a big Djawadi fan, but this isn't a bad CD. It has its share of techno-type music that I imagine was meant to make it sound "younger". (Mr. Brooks is the rare movie with older stars in it - Demi Moore, Kevin Costner, and William Hurt.)
Of course, they have to include some god awful pop song. The good news is that it is at the beginning so we get it out of the way. lol
I like it a lot and I loved the movie. Served the tone of the movie very well. Simple but effective. I actually like the song, too, as it was used in a pivotal scene and it's hard to picture that scene without that song.
I basically enjoy it, would not write home about it, but it was pleasent.[/endquote
That is exactly how I feel about it. Many of the blind buys I have been listening to lately have turned out to be "meh". So I will take "decent but nothing special". It better than "meh"!
I just saw the film. I kind of liked it, quite original. William Hurt is always great. The director Bruce A Evans has only directed one other movie, KUFFS from 1992. Weird.
This was actually Djawadi's first solo feature score! All the prior ones were scored with co-composers. Taking that into consideration, this was a quite impressive score. Not too different from a contemporary Gregson-Williams score for Tony Scott or Antoine Fuqua, I would say. Mostly electronic.
