This to me sounds better than the 'nintendo' sounding rejected score. These samples have a George Clinton vibe to them and it sounds more produced overall. But the Daft Punk influence is still there. I guess "Tron" is the hot score to go to for the producers.

Not at all. TRON: Legacy was a whole other beast then what is here. If Daft Punk was the influence here, then Paul Leonard Morgan must've not been listening. A reason why I suddenly fancied the Drokk album is because it really felt like it was out of time, and unsurprisingly Geoff Barrow and his collaborator Ben Salisbury used classic Oberheim two-voice synths from the late 70s to create the music. It was the kind of music fans of that particular style just hadn't had the opportunity to hear since a time long ago.

But Morgan's Limitless, yes, I hear the influence of both The Social Network and TRON: Legacy (the two scores from that era that will continue to influence young musicians) -- but not here. You had it right the first time, more like George S. Clinton.

"Lockdown" & "The Rise of Ma-Ma" sound very Tron'esque to me, but you are right in that there are lots of other styles thrown about too and it's not just the typical electro beat.

Saw this film last night and really enjoyed it.
It's a lean, mean grime machine. Reminded me of early John Carpenter flicks like Assault on Precinct 13 and Escape from New York. Even the music tries to emulate Carpenter at times, but forgets to bring along a main theme or much interest, other than ambience.
This is the film I envisaged when I used to read 2000 A.D as a kid.
It's heavy on the violence, in that Peckinpah slo-mo style. Very brutal at times.
It could have done with a bit more satire and humour (I imagine Verhoeven would make a great DREDD film) but overall, it was way better than I expected (from initial early advance reports and the trailer).
I hope it does well because this film acts as a precursor of great things to come and I'd certainly come along for more.
The 3D btw is a complete waste of time and it pissed me off that there aren't any 2D showings, so I had to watch it in 'rip-off' mode.

Oh, and the title of this thread should be DREDD, cos that's what this film is called.
That other title belongs to the laughable (if enjoyable, guilty pleasure-wise) Stallone vehicle.

Ressurecting this now because I've just received a digital promo of Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow's apparently rejected score(??). The album is called DROKK: MUSIC INSPIRED BY MEGA-CITY ONE. And it's great. Quite Carpenter in style and tone, and more accesible than their EX MACHINA and ANNIHILATION (although I like those too).

Given the fact that Alex Garland wrote, produced and shadow-directed this film, it makes sense that he had originally hired Ben and Geoff.

While I absolutely love the film, I haven't heard Morgan's score on album yet, so I can't really remember how that differs from the Ben and Geoff approach.

Maybe they'll score the Tales of Mega City One or whatever the planned Dredd tv series will be called (probably not due for years).

So what's the possibility of Dredd being re-issued. It's near impossible to find now.

Paul Leonard-Morgan tweeted me back when I asked him about it (which was cool) and he said "Don't think so." But I doubt he's tracking the business and publishing side of his discography.

Who would own the music rights to Dredd? Could they be acquired? The fact that people are demanding huge amounts for the score on the secondary market would indicate that there is still a healthy demand for a re-issued album.

Just recently gave this a watch and a listen.

Surprised at how enjoyable both are.
