Il Prezzo De Potere (THE PRICE OF POWER) has recently been re-issued and expanded. I have not heard this version (I have the CAM cd) but I can tell you this: ENNIO MORRICONE is the main composer NOT Luis Bacalov. Tracks 1,2,3,6,7,9,10<11 are clearly the work of The Maestro. Compare these tracks to the Bacalov cues. They sound nothing alike! if you know and love Ennio's Western scores like I do, you owe it to yourself to get this soundtrack. It's Ennio. Believe me! bruce ps see the film also. Directed by Tonino Valeri it is a unique reteling of the Kennedy assassination set in the Old West!

Well sorry Bruce, it doesn't sound like Ennio to me. It does sound like Bacalov, after all there are straight lifts from Django, Qein Sabe, and Man Called Noon, and the music is written in the style of Il Grande Duello. So sorry Bruce but I must disagree with you here. This is Luis Bacalov all the way. Now just watch him prove me wrong.

Hi, as Jim has alluded to, some of the music is certainly influenced by Morricone but written by Bacalov. Is your statement based on hard evidence or just an opinion? Bacalov's score to A BULLET FOR THE GENERAL was advertised as 'supervised by' Morricone, I do not recognise EM's hand in that either. Dave

Bacalov's score to A BULLET FOR THE GENERAL was advertised as 'supervised by' Morricone, I do not recognise EM's hand in that either. Dave This has been denied, somewhere. It might be on the dvd.It was just a publicity stunt as EM was quite famous by then (atl east in Europe).Besides,I have it on good authority that, when Quein Sabe was being recorded Ennio was at home washing his hair (every Tuesday I believe).

I "confess' a lack of familiarity with Bacalov's music but there are several tracks, action cues, that do not sound like Ennio at all. Why would a composer write part of a score in the Morricone mode and the other in his "own" voice. No, this is the work of two composers. The style of a composer is like a fingerprint - Ennio's music devices are all over this work. Maybe , you have to be a musician to catch 'em, I don't know. Anyway, my main point was to bring this score (and film) to your attention. You do not have to accept my thesis to enjoy it! bruce ps its Ennio, dammitt!

Maleficio, I can state from personal knowledge that in some cases, which are rare, what a credit reads on screen, may not be who wrote the score. I can think of one American film from 1996 where the composer credited, for example, did nothing. Not a theme, not cues, nothing. And other ghostwriting examples of film and television. Even instances no no cue sheet credits.

I just saw THE PRICE OF POWER at the Film Forum's 'Spaghetti Western' Festival which runs yntil Thursday. The film was one of my favorites of the 15 I saw (will still see six more before it ends) and it did indeed showcase a magnificent Bakalov score, which was one of the few in the festival NOT scored By Morricone. Morricone magic every night has been pure musical bliss. http://www.filmforum.org/movies/more/spaghetti_westerns#nowplaying In any case I am thrilled to hear the news about IL PREZZO's CD release. Can someone tell me where it can be ordered. It is not listed on Amazon or at Screen Archives. Over the last week I've picked up a half dozen other Italian CD releases by Morricone, who for me ranks with Bernstein, Herrmann, Goldsmith, Rosza, Steiner, Korngold, Takemitsu, Walton, Auric, Delerue, Rota, Tiomkin, Newman, Mancini, North, Williams, Legrand and Young among the greatest film composers, and Morricone would be Top 5 material.
