La-La Land Records, Sony Music Entertainment and Paramount Pictures boldly go where no soundtrack reissue has gone before with this deluxe 3-CD set of 1979‘s STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith.

The first big screen voyage of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock was a high budget and ambitious undertaking that introduced Goldsmith’s famous and enduring Star Trek march (later used as the main theme for Star Trek: The Next Generation) as the cornerstone of an epic science fiction musical odyssey. Like the film’s refit starship Enterprise, La-La Land’s lavish presentation presents the score anew: fully restored, remixed and mastered from the first generation multi-track masters by Bruce Botnick, the original album co-producer and Goldsmith’s long time scoring engineer.

“To put together the score the decision was to go back to the original Analogue 16-track 2-inch 30 i.p.s. masters,” Botnick explains. “John Davis at Precision Audiosonics baked each of the 37 rolls in a convection oven at 110º for eight hours so that they were playable, then rolled out a marvelous 3M 56 IsoLoop 16-track machine with brand new heads. The tapes were resolved at 60Hz to maintain the original orchestral pitch and sync. The Analogue-to-Digital transfer was done from the 16-track through the latest Black Lion A/D convertors and recorded to Pro Tools X at 192kHz 24-bit.”

This 3-CD set presents the score for the 1979 theatrical release (filling disc 1 and part of disc 2) and also premieres the legendary early “rejected” cues that Goldsmith recorded prior to composing his famous main theme. The 1979 album program (much of which is performed and edited differently as compared to the film) completes disc 2, with disc 3 offering additional alternates (including those heard on the previous Sony expanded release) along with a wealth of bonus material. Among the highlights are a collection of early takes of the “Main Title” (including extensive stage chatter), isolated segments featuring Craig Huxley’s famous “blaster beam” and assorted synthesizer excerpts, the domestic CD debut of Bob James’ disco cover version of Goldsmith’s theme and Shaun Cassidy’s vocal version of the love theme, “A Star Beyond Time.”

Reissue co-producer Mike Matessino (who handled restoration and editorial efforts) collaborates with Jeff Bond on the thoroughly researched album notes which feature interview excerpts by Goldsmith, Botnick and performers Huxley and David Newman. The clamshell packaging and 40-page full color booklet are designed by Jim Titus. This special release was produced by Bruce Botnick and Mike Matessino, produced for Sony Music Entertainment by Didier C. Deutsch, mixed and mastered by Bruce Botnick, and restored, edited and assembled by Mike Matessino.

“It has been an honor to be able to work with the original recordings of this music and to document its production,” Matessino says. “This is one of the greatest scores of all time and everyone involved took the responsibility very seriously and happily devoted months to see it come together. The clarity and quality we now have is truly amazing. Thanks to the efforts of La-La Land Records, Sony Music and Paramount Pictures, the end product is an embarrassment of riches and a ‘must-have’ for every film music and Star Trek collection.”

Music by Jerry Goldsmith
Limited Edition of 2000 Units

ORDER “WARNING SHOT: LIMITED EDITION” on June 5 (1pm PST) at www.lalalandrecords.com

STARTS SHIPPING JUNE 5
RETAIL PRICE $19.98

La-La Land Records, Paramount Pictures and Capitol Records presents the world premiere release of Jerry Goldsmith’s original film score from the 1967 Paramount Pictures thriller WARNING SHOT, starring David Janssen, Ed Begley and Keenan Wynn, and directed by Buzz Kulik. This CD marks the first time Goldsmith’s thrilling, original WARNING SHOT film score tracks have ever been released. While WARNING SHOT’S score masters are lost to the ages, tracks 1-16 of this release were rescued from the film’s monaural music stem. Fluctuating volume levels have been smoothed out, but some hiss is audible, as are occasional low-level sound effects and dialogue bleed from the film’s audio masters. All of these have been minimized, with light stereo ambiance added to improve listenability – much like our well-received release of SECONDS. Also featured on this release is the Si Zentner album, remastered from the original ¼ inch audio master. Tracks 17-22 showcase Si’s interpretation of Goldsmith’s WARNING SHOT score while Tracks 23-27 features Si’s versions of other famous Goldsmith themes, such as MAN FROM UNCLE, A PATCH OF BLUE and THE PRIZE. Produced by Lukas Kendall, transferred by Johnny Davis, restored by Michael McDonald and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special release features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond and is limited to 2000 units.

Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Mike Matessino, this special release, limited to 2000 units, contains the score as heard in the film, source cues, alternates and cues cut from the final film. Liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond take you behind-the-scenes of this cult classic and its music. “Mommie” the film may be “so bad, it’s good,” but Mancini’s score is undeniably great!

WINGS: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1206
Music by J. S. Zamecnik
Arranged and Orchestrated by Dominik Hauser
Limited Edition of 2000 Units

In honor of Paramount Pictures' 100th Anniversary, La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present J.S. Zamecnik's original score, arranged and orchestrated by Dominik Hauser, to the very first Academy Award for Best Picture, the sensational 1927 WWI-set epic drama/adventure WINGS, starring Clara Bow, Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper, and directed by William A. Wellman. When it was decided to restore the classic WINGS for the studio's centennial, Paramount Pictures commissioned a new arrangement of J.S. Zamecnik's original score (originally played live to picture) to be newly recorded for the film. A prolific composer for films during the silent era, this release marks the very first time that an album’s worth of any Zamecnik score has ever been recorded and released. Hauser brings Zamecnik's original score, rich in dramatic, romantic and action material, (as well as peppered with classical compositions), to life in all of its robust, thematic splendor. This music, much like the film's phenomenal aerial sequences, simply soars to exciting heights. Produced by Dan Goldwasser, with music and album assembly produced by Jeannie Gayle Pool and Dominik Hauser, and mastered by James Nelson, this special release is limited to 2000 units. Jeannie Gayle Pool, who was asked to produce this full score restoration for Paramount, brings you behind the scenes of that process in her in-depth liner notes. What better way to commemorate a historic film restoration than to release a piece of film music history!

Acclaimed composer David Newman (SERENITY, SCOOBY DOO, ICE AGE, THE PHANTOM) pulls off an impressive musical feat, employing a comic touch while skillfully supporting the film’s legitimate, considerable sci-fi action and well-drawn character relationships. Newman continues in the rich tradition of the Newman family musical legacy, composing a score that employs big choral passages and wondrous melodic themes. Released previously only as a composer-produced promo CD, this official, longer and remastered edition, produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, sounds stellar and features exclusive liner notes by film music writer Tim Greiving. This is a limited edition of 3000 units.

Produced by Michael McCuistion, Lolita Ritmanis & Kristopher Carter and mastered by James Nelson, this release includes exclusive liner note comments from the composers and filmmakers. This is a limited edition of 1000 units.

La-La Land Records and Sony Music presents the world premiere release of the first official remastered and expanded edition of renowned composer John Williams's (JAWS, STAR WARS, SCHINDLER’S LIST) original score to the 1991 Tri-Star Pictures’ adventure/fantasy epic HOOK, directed by Steven Speilberg. Long considered one of the maestro's best scores in collaboration with Mr. Spielberg, this masterwork is finally presented here in a worthy 2-CD release that contains more than 140 mins of music, including bonus alternate and unused cues, greatly expanding the score's original 1991 album assembly with more than 65 minutes of music previously unreleased in any official format. Produced by Didier C. Deutsch and Mark G. Wilder, mastered by Mark G. Wilder and Maria Triana and supervised and approved by John Williams, this expanded reissue features amazing art design by Jim Titus and exclusive, in-depth liners from film music writer Daniel Schweiger.
