Wasn't sure if this had made the boards yet or not, so simply wanted to post:

Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to William Friedkin's 1976 film Sorcerer, was its first of many Hollywood commissions.

The last studio recording featuring the band's classic mid-1970s trio line-up - Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann - Sorcerer was a typically thrilling, atmospheric and pulsating album release that remains one of Tangerine Dream's most commercially successful albums.

This new edition is re-mastered, restores the original album artwork and includes an illustrated booklet with a new essay.

Pre-order now for June 11th shipping.

According to Amazon a re-mastered version of this came out in November 2011 with the original artwork and a booklet. I'm quite interested in getting this so whats the difference with this new edition?

Wish I knew - just passing on the info. Perhaps there's a TD expert who can chime in -- I'm just a huge fan of their work from that era, and this score.

That IS odd, since as mentioned above, it was already reissued last year as one in a series of TD reissues ( the only score re-issue so far however ).

I've heard good and bad on the remastering but word is the packaging and new liner notes are very good. I love this score and will eventually pick up the reissue. Am pretty sure this is just going to be a U.S edition of the U.K. reissue

Well - I'm good with my CD of Sorcerer which is many years old now - however I am happy for anything new and/or improved from Tangerine Dream. I only wish their score for Mann's THE KEEP would get out! roll eyes

I actually got Sorcerer in the mail only two weeks ago and it's the new edition.

The liner notes have the director's comments from the original album and a new retrospective by Malcolm Dome. There's also a print review of the LP album from 1977 by Dave Fudger and a bunch of stills and lobby card photos. The disc art is the same as the album art.

I would really like to know if somebody who purchased the remastered CD release has compared it with the original CD release. Is there any substantial improvement in the remastered release or does it just sound louder?

I got this couple of months ago and it sounds decent, can't do the comparison as I don't own the original release. The booklet has comments by William Friedkin (I suspect taken from previous edition?) and informative liner notes along with stills, different art for the movie. It also has this hilarious picture on the back cover and back of the booklet big grin:

I highly recommend it! I ordered it from Grooves-Inc.

How is the sound on "Betrayal" in the new release compared to the old one? I would upgrade for that one cue alone...

The old album sounds very muddy.

I'm also thinking of ordering the remastered edition. However, the label is apparently an offshoot of Cherry Red & I've been disappointed by the sound of several of their releases, so can anybody compare this to the MCA Cd release?

Ok, then I have this now and it's a great improvement over the (as a poster said "muddy") original MCA Cd. Glad I made the purchase.

Oh yeah? How does the final track "Betrayal" sound?

Anyone able to answer The Mutant's question?

And while you're at it, please feel free to answer my other SORCERER-related questions here wink:

For the UK remastered edition from 2012, what label released this edition? I only show the MCA CD version listed on Soundtrackcollector.com

So, is the sound a big upgrade? How does Betrayal sound now? That was the worst sounding cue on the cd (and my favorite)
