I was in HMV London yesterday and saw a few interesting things on the shelves:

The original Varese edition of GORKY PARK

George Delerue THE LONDON SESSIONS volumes 1 and 2.

I figured someone must have found a box of old stuff somewhere in the store room.

I also saw ROCKETEER. I could have sworn that was out of print, but a quick on-line check shows it's available at SAE, play.com, amazon, etc.

Has it been re-issued? Or was it never OOP in the first place?

Cheers

It's never gone out of print to my knowledge

I do vaguely remember it becoming a bit sparse for a time, with the CD fetching some high-ish prices, but then it suddenly seemed to reappear again in big quantities.
The same thing happened with JNH's LAST AIRBENDER, albeit over a much shorter time frame.
That one almost became extinct, before lots more copies suddenly flooded the internets.

I believe it did go OOP, then reissued. A straight reissue, as if it never left, but it was in moratorium for a time. With Intrada's relationship with Hollywood Records, you can bet an expanded edition is forthcoming.

Yes, please issue a complete score CD of this rousing classic adventure!

I would buy this up really quickly. I love this one: it was the first soundtrack I ever acquired. smile

I remember playing this CD in a loop on a road trip for two or three hours. And talking to my poor car mates about it's genius for pretty much the whole time.

Here's a reply by Roger from an interview about three of four months ago:

One might ask why we haven't done Rocketeer yet and I could only answer, well we just released a two-CD set of the complete Clear & Present Danger. I could have done Rocketeer first and then we'd be asked, what would it take to have a complete Clear & Present Danger? Everything in good time. I hope!

That sounds promising. Good things come to those who wait. I'm hoping we see an expanded Rocketeer sometime in 2014 (preferably early 2014 *hint*hint*)

Right from the horses mouth. Though they have yet re-released an existing CD, (expanded or not) and such was not part of the original Disney deal. Hopefully the quoted statement means their contract has expanded to previously released scores on disc.

I sure hope The Rocketeer gets the expanded treatment. I just watched the movie again last night and there are lots of great cues there. This movie is #1 on my expanded wish list.

I guess it's OOP. Look at the prices on Screen Archives and Amazon!

A straight reissue (with the existing programming) would be great for those who haven't got it yet, and if it is indeed getting hard to come by. One of Horner's finest. It's a fan favourite for a reason.

Sadly, it's more likely now then before.

I'm told Mr. Horner was the one that vetoed such a release.

With his passing I sadly suspect this might be more likely to happen now.

Very interesting to know that.

Was there ever a reason given? It's usually not known why a composer might be against an expanded album, and it's especially interesting given he gave the okay for so many of his albums to be expanded or if they were first editions (like Intrada's "In Country") they had a collection of bonuses after the album presentation. Why he would have been against this specific score being expanded is pretty puzzling given the past is all. The only two scores we know for certain he did not want released (in any form) were "The Hand" and "Battle Beyond The Stars".

Good move by Horner, if that's the case. Loved that man!

Reissue the original-expanded even better, but PLEASE re-release!

Good move because one percent didn't want an expansion? How about the other ninety-nine percent? His music brings so much joy to us. I'll never understand why composers want to withhold some releases. (If I remember correctly Jerry Goldsmith was the same way.) I was as crushed as anyone else by his passing. But if we can get an expanded score now, I don't think its a "bad move" or "sad" thing, but a joyous one.

Well, you know I want to rid the world of the plague that is expanded releases! wink

There can be any number of reasons for why a composer boycotts a soundtrack release or an expansion. Williams reportedly does that with SUGARLAND EXPRESS, and if that's true, I'm guessing it has something to do with the quality of the music -- it's not terribly interesting beyond the main theme (which has been recorded multiple times). Or he can think it works best in its original presentation (a common ideology among composers, thank God).
