I wish they'd release a tv show I want, like GET CHRISTIE LOVE or
THE NAME OF THE GAME.

Whoops. I tend not to follow those ginormous threads that just keep going forever. Sorry.

Except Picture Association, but that's kind of different.

I kind of like having new threads all the time (with apologies to Thor, Guardian of the Threads).

Oh! And YES, me, too, glad it's not DVD-R.

I just hope Warner shows enough commitment to at least get through to seasons two and three (all the Garner eps.)

I want the whole series. I have the sampler disc they released a few years back. I always figured that would lead shortly to the whole series being released, but NO, they went off and started Cheyenne and F Troop instead. Grumble.

While we are at it how about all the other Maverick tv episodes like Young Maverick and Bret Maverick.....

I imagine that this pressed DVD release of Season 1 is a test. If it doesn't do well, they'll likely do subsequent seasons as MOD discs, like they did after the first season of "Cheyenne" and like they've been doing with "Southland." It was because the sample disc didn't do well that we've had to wait this long.

Waiting for the Roger Moore season. Shame they didn't spring for a Garner commentary on at least one episode.

Hey Greg,

Whassup with the Jack Kelly eps?
Was Garner busy doing movies or was he just not considered a "star" yet?

To be honest, I skip the Kelly eps.
Its Garner or nothing (GON) for this cowpoke

It wasn't too long after filming of the series started in 1957 that the show's executives realized that they were hopelessly behind schedule. So a second Maverick (Jack Kelly) was introduced, who worked with a separate production crew. Kelly appeared in about a third of the first season's episodes. By 1960, Garner and Kelly were each in about half of the episodes. Garner left the series after the 1960-61 season, and Kelly starred in nearly all of the final season's shows.

And Don't Forget THIS Lil Ditty from 1978 Department:

"The New Maverick" is generally unmemorable except for the smooth polish effortlessly recreated
with sparkling panache by Messrs. Garner and Kelly but still worth a look -

assuming, a'course, if'n you can find it ... wink

After falling behind in shooting the first seven episodes, the producers realized they needed to be able to film multiple shows simultaneously or they would not make their airdates, so another Maverick brother had to be cast. The scripts simply refer to "Maverick" and the writers were directed to write as though Garner would always be the star, but the scripts were generally just given to whichever actor was done with his last episode. When Garner successfully ended his contract with Warner Brothers after the third season, Kelly alternated with Roger Moore as Cousin Beau for a year and then shot an abbreviated 13-episode final season which was filled out with reruns. In the end, Garner appeared in about 52 episodes and Kelly in over 70.

WB was definitely NOT ready for primetime!
Unlike rival CBS.

Most of the exteriors in MAVERICK are stock shots from WB films. This includes all action scenes invoving Indians and horseback chases where you cant tell who is riding.
The music is also lifted from their film library!

I will say this; the theme is one of the most catchy of all-time.
In facvt its a damn 'earwick'- i cant get the goddam thing out of m,y head

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
