That Deacon Jones "Could Have Been" is the culmination of too many hours spent watching old NFL Films documentaries as a youth. I never saw him play, but "The Deacon" always impressed me with his great personality, and no-nonsense attitude.
For instance:
[the headslap was] "To give myself an initial headstart on the pass rush, in other words a[sic] extra step. Because anytime you go upside a man's head, or woman, they may have a tendency to blink they[sic] eyes or close they[sic] eyes. And that's all I needed."
Deacon's absolutely correct. I know if he went upside my head, I'd have a tendency to close my eyes for several minutes...and not by choice.
How could this guy NOT have a prime time variety show?
I'm counting the heartbeats until the next "Zach Woodcock" TV movie is produced.
Ah yes, the Woodcock pictures.
Joe Don Baker was wonderful in those, and he showed what a good athlete he was. Lots of running and climbing and a few fight scenes involved in those pictures and Joe did all the stunts himself without breaking a sweat.
Tremendous cast too.
I'm always looking to give Lou Frizzell more to do. He was wonderful.
I used to would have watched those Woodcock movies on TBS. Faded, scratchy prints with muffled sound, so a dvd on demand release would be ideal. I doubt it'd ever happen though. The kids want Shia LaBeouf, Toy Story 4, and more "Saw."
I've been working tirelessly to compile quotes of praise for the thread by the June anniversary date, so if anyone out there can assist us in this matter, there'd be all kinds of grateful stuff to be said.
It's strange how even one of my best friends of nearly twenty years doesn't "get" the concept here. I sent him a few "What Could have Been" entries (I think it was The Apples of August) and he merely replied, "Is this for real?" He normally has a great sense of humor, but even he is not among The Anointed.
Oh, and don't think I don't know that this and its parent thread doesn't irritate the shit out of 99% of those who post here; especially the Europeans.

Too bad our fellow FSMers couldn't provide constructive critiques of all these films and TV shows. After all, they very well could have been as important to their growing up--it's what I call THE WOMB THEORY--as, say, all that Lucas-Spielberg fluff they pontificate endlessly about.
Imagine how our culture would have turned out had Star Trek never been, and THX-1138 was a hit, and Spielberg made the west coast version of Woody Allen movies or stayed in TV or something?
