"Is There in Truth No Beauty?" Dept.

~To the anointed few...

A tribute to a tribute to the almighty "WHAT IF" game.

Once There Was a Toenail-Clipping Session to Pass the Thyme...

"Oooh...what an Orangeman...he (Max B., natch!) was..."

"ORANGEMAN - (1985) Patrick Swayze stars as the action comic book hero ORANGEMAN. After a routine recovery of a nuclear test missile off the coast of Florida, Seargent Brent Bentley discovers that he IS the citrus crusader after consuming a radiactive orange. Joel Gray, Lea Thompson, Jim Brown, Barry Bostwick, and Kelly Lynch irradiate the screen."

And Then...There Was Fivehouse...

(Sarcastically smiling) "If there is one lesson that your mother always instilled in me...(Pauses, while reaching for the hunk of cheese that is on the floor) Never underestimate the sensibilities of a cheese connoisseur - for all exceptional cheeses are never cut from the same mold.."

Welcome to "The Best Thread Nobody Reads!!!"

Celebrating Five positively GLO-REE-US Years in Junio, pally!

..."Or Else!"

LOL! (Really)

Oh my God, that is brilliant in so many ways.

Awesome.

But at 62412 viewings, SOMEBODY's reading it besides us!

(Still LOL)

Sincerely appreciating those who appreciate....WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN.

Special thanks to Max who had a dream.

I concur. "Brilliant" big grin

Long live the thread!

It is "indeed" a fun oasis (at least for a few of us) away from the "lists" and "on order" and the "where's my package?" threads going on ad nauseum.

We must always be "mindful" of the "enormous" contributions made on the thread by the one and only Deacon Jones.

Thinking of him, and those "WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN" escapades have made me laugh out loud at work during some down times.

"What the hell are you laughing at?"

ME: "Forget it, you wouldn't understand it even if I told you"

The Deacon Jones "or else" one had me laughing out loud the first time I saw it, too.

It was for me the equivalent of Truffault seeing Citizen Kane for the first time.

That Deacon Jones "Could Have Been" is the culmination of too many hours spent watching old NFL Films documentaries as a youth. I never saw him play, but "The Deacon" always impressed me with his great personality, and no-nonsense attitude.

For instance:

[the headslap was] "To give myself an initial headstart on the pass rush, in other words a[sic] extra step. Because anytime you go upside a man's head, or woman, they may have a tendency to blink they[sic] eyes or close they[sic] eyes. And that's all I needed."

Deacon's absolutely correct. I know if he went upside my head, I'd have a tendency to close my eyes for several minutes...and not by choice.

How could this guy NOT have a prime time variety show?

I'm counting the heartbeats until the next "Zach Woodcock" TV movie is produced.

Ah yes, the Woodcock pictures.

Joe Don Baker was wonderful in those, and he showed what a good athlete he was.
Lots of running and climbing and a few fight scenes involved in those pictures and Joe did all the stunts himself without breaking a sweat.

Tremendous cast too.

I'm always looking to give Lou Frizzell more to do. He was wonderful.

I used to would have watched those Woodcock movies on TBS. Faded, scratchy prints with muffled sound, so a dvd on demand release would be ideal. I doubt it'd ever happen though. The kids want Shia LaBeouf, Toy Story 4, and more "Saw."

Amazing how the WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN... thread spun off the entire FIVEHOUSE franchise!

And where would we few, we happy few, be without those continuing adventures?

Can't wait to read the congratulations from the rest of the FSM collective on five big years of WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN.*

They should be chiming in any moment now. That thread is HUGE over in Europe.

HUGE.

*But Never Was (THANK GOD)

I've been working tirelessly to compile quotes of praise for the thread by the June anniversary date, so if anyone out there can assist us in this matter, there'd be all kinds of grateful stuff to be said.

It's strange how even one of my best friends of nearly twenty years doesn't "get" the concept here. I sent him a few "What Could have Been" entries (I think it was The Apples of August) and he merely replied, "Is this for real?" He normally has a great sense of humor, but even he is not among The Anointed.

Oh, and don't think I don't know that this and its parent thread doesn't irritate the shit out of 99% of those who post here; especially the Europeans.

It's why we do what we do.

That, and for the kids.

Too bad our fellow FSMers couldn't provide constructive critiques of all these films and TV shows. After all, they very well could have been as important to their growing up--it's what I call THE WOMB THEORY--as, say, all that Lucas-Spielberg fluff they pontificate endlessly about.

Imagine how our culture would have turned out had Star Trek never been, and THX-1138 was a hit, and Spielberg made the west coast version of Woody Allen movies or stayed in TV or something?
