Clare Fischer, the jazz keyboardist who played the Yamaha YC30 solo (NOT a syntheizer) on Henry Mancini's "The N.B.C. Mystery Movie Theme" expanded yet faithfully recorded on Manicni's "Big Screen Little Screen" album has died. Comments about the theme or condolences, anybody?
Very sad news. Mr Mancini put together a very talented bunch of musicians to get that unique 'Mancini' sound. Probably the likes of which will never be assembled again.
Sad to hear this, I always thought the Mystery Movie theme to be memorable and original - it always reminded me of the Mancini theme to the short-lived series Cade's County, which used a somewhat similar effect. I always thought that sound was played by Mancini's son on ARP synth; you learn something new every day, eh?
Clare Fischer also wrote for jazz orchestra too - he did a lovely piece for Stan Kenton entitled Piece for Soft Brass, Woodwinds and Percussion which was included on the CD Stan Kenton Conducts the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra.
I knew mostly Clare Fisher for his work with Prince for almost 20 years. His wonderful string arrangements which most of the times were based on counter melodies, added a great value to his songs.

Fischer also performed the Yamaha YC30 solo on the "Cade's County" main title too (like the "The N.B.C. Mystery Movie Theme", expanded, yet recreated faithfully on "Big Screen Little Screen" available on C.D. from R.C.A. Spain).

I always liked it on MST3K whenever Joel and the 'bots would start whistling the NBC Mystery Movie theme whenever someone would shine a flashlight into the camera.
