I might be the only one who actually prefers Elementary to Sherlock (the Cumberbatch/Freeman series). I did not like Sherlock series at all but I like Elementary.

Actually, there are two of us.

Make that three, though I suspect this may be its last season.

I'm finally watching Season 1 of Elementary thanks to Netflix DE. I'm only 6 eps in but it's complelling viewing. I agree that it has something over Sherlock. Lucy makes a great Watson and I like that she is supposed to be his companion. Workmates and no romance between them. (My wife and I are also currently watching Seasons 1-8 of Bones as they're on Amazon Prime streaming, we are half way through season 5 atm)

Count me as another Elementary fan. I agree that the first season was its strongest, but there are plenty of great episodes in season 2, particularly the episodes that feature Mycroft and/or Lestrade. Season 3 just started, and I am enjoying it so far, although I am still lukewarm on the new cast member (I won't spoil who she is for those still watching the early seasons).

As compared to Sherlock, I think Elementary is the better show. I really like the evolution of Joan's character, I enjoy Johnny Lee Miller's performance, and I like Captain Gregson and Detective Bell. I still like Sherlock, and it certainly has its strengths, but the quality of the writing is all over the place, and the resolutions of the cliffhangers at the end of series 1 and series 2 were both tremendous disappointments. I also hate that they basically turned Moriarty into a poor man's Joker.

One advantage Elementary has is that with 20+ episodes a season, they can get away with a few duds, whereas with Sherlock, with only three episodes a series, a bad episode sticks out like a sore thumb.

Make that three, though I suspect this may be its last season.

Add me to the list of the show's admirers.

However...they've gone and ruined the dynamic between Sherlock and Watson and introduced another female into the mix. She's a dour, troubled, broken little thing and they are playing on Watson's instincts to "fix her."

The duo are "separate" consultants with the police, thus far, this season.

Not enjoying the story lines, but the production values remain first-rate. The prediction for this being the last season may play out to be true. The show is losing the audience it won so handily with the excellent seasons before this one.

As someone who loves looking at NYC, I can't help but like ELEMENTARY, which I believe is entirely shot in New York. It's a much more glossy production than BBC's SHERLOCK. I also like BLUE BLOODS for the same reason and will often freeze-frame the aerial shots of the city that begin almost every segment. Not sure if that show shots entirely in New York though.

Love the opening theme to Elementary. It sticks in my brain for long periods. Hope we get a soundtrack some day!

Another thing I really like:
Watson is very helpful to Holmes. Not just a sidekick/muscle
Her medical knowledge has helped solve cases more than once

Season two has proved to be a bit of a letdown
frown
My biggest gripe: the scenes dealing with addiction. Not just Holmes (who seems over it at this pernt) but the sponsors, the sponsees, the meetings, the old friends dying etc.

It doesn't work for me
Does it work for you?

Halfway thru s.4 and and, amazingly, the show has it mojo back!
Main reason: Morland Holmes, Sherlock's father. This character is a combination Rupert Murdoch and Mycroft Holmes (from the books and SHERLOCK). Played by John Noble it continues the happy practice of humanizing Holmes.

check it out!!!

ps Pulliam is right; you can never get enough good Holmes (Downey's films are not included in the "good" section)
