GDT just posted on his website that the announcement of composer for his blockbuster 'Pacific Rim' is coming very soon. He said it's a high profile composer who is very popular right now and he has not worked with him before.

Giacchino?

Yes, I understand it's being referred to as "The Rim Job."

Desplat would make sense.

Giacchino?

Considering his "Roar!" overture from Cloverfield, he'd be a good choice. smile

Unless a miracle happens, I think I've lost my interest in the movie.

that miracle won't happen to be your boy Beltrami would it? wink
someone popular? Zimmer maybe? will be disappointed if it was Michael G. love his animated stuff, but his live action scores never fails to bore me

Too bad it isn't Beltrami, but Paradise Lost and WWZ will more than make up for it.

I'm predicting Hans Zimmer will score this, although Giacchino is a good guess.

A guy on that website who claims to be in the know, says its an Oscar winner who has been scoring popular movies for years and years. So maybe Horner?

That narrows in down to:

Michael Giacchino
A.R. Rahman (sort of counts, he's scored a lot of popular Bollywood films)
Howard Shore
Elliott Goldenthal
James Horner
Alan Menken
Hans Zimmer
John Williams (though of course, Williams is semi-retired)
Randy Newman

I'm guessing it's Shore (since his 2013 schedule is empty other than The Hobbit sequel).

I'll put money on Shore too, only because he said they got along well when Del Toro was still on THE HOBBIT. Williams would be the most exciting on that list to me, however.

It's already settled and known for quite some time : Zimmer is gonna score it.

Meh.

Del Toro should have stuck with Javier Navarrete.

Zimmer and co scoring a monster movie. Officially now on my top
5 most anticipated scores this year... At least I think Rim is this year.

It won't be out until 2013.

Personally, I find this disappointing. Beltrami overlooked for Giacchino, Horner or Shore I could go along with. Beltrami overlooked in favour of further domination from Zimmer and the Remote Control gang... not so much.

Why do you guys think Zimmer is going to score it? It's not confirmed on FilmMusicReporter or anywhere else. (Please give me a link to prove otherwise.)

It's probably going to be Giacchino, Desplat, Brian Tyler or someone else relatively "new" to film scoring. It doesn't feel like Zimmer.

This should then be the mystery score Zimmer was recording strings, I recall, for two to three weeks ago.

Is Jealous of the Birds still being worked on? It could have been that.

And I think Pacific Rim only just started filming.
