I bought all of these, and more, all I can find. Peplum scores are less of a guilty pleasure than the films they accompany, mostly because the music always seemed better. In theatres, and on some of these recordings, there's still that old feeling I had that they were recorded underwater, the sound seemed so muffled somehow. But, in the days when these films came out, the idea of ever having the music from them on recordings was only a remote impossibility. The only album I can recall from the actual period was a sort of story album for the original HERCULES, narrated by, of all people, Conrad Nagel! Who was about one of the most non-Hercules people I could think of... There are still a few omissions in peplum releases: THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES, SWORDSMAN OF SIENA, THE CASTILIAN, as well as a few others. As long as they keep getting released, I'll keep buying them. Always fun. And some of them are lovely.

Thanks for the heads-up. I do recall this score as being closer to sci-fi (befitting this particular film) than the standard peplum marches/battles, etc. I keep hoping that Rustichelli's THE MINOTAUR might show up someday, although knowledgeable people have stated that the tapes are lost. My favourite has always been ACHILLES (released in 1963) with music by Carlo Savina. The music is often better than the film in this one, but it does have it moments. The title was changed to FURY OF ACHILLES for the American market. I've seen the opening titles to the American version on YouTube and incredibly, the title music on it is played backwards! To hear the music played properly, see the British release version (not yet on DVD) or the Italian DVD under its original title L'IRA DE ACHILLE.

Thanks, DavidRayner1947, for your interest in Carlo Savina! Perhaps you are unaware, but in this other thread on Savina ... http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=106008&forumID=1&archive=0 ... it has been confirmed that the master tapes for that peplum you describe do indeed exist! "These are the titles from the CAM catalogue which are owned by Sugar and which could probably be released quite easily on CD. Where necessary I have added the original Italian (or Spanish) film title: 15. FURY OF ACHILLES (1962) L'IRA DI ACHILLE"

I'm glad to hear the ACHILLES tapes still exist. Savina was a great composer and conductor and, although the movie ACHILLES was never going to win any Oscars, his score for it was excellent. You never know, an LP of the score may well have been released in Italy at the time. If so, though, I've never come across it.

There's a Rustichelli one, with three Kirk Morris efforts on it. I quite like it.
