Is the complete score still coming out on LLL? Any news?
In any case I couldn't wait any longer and did a cue breakdown/analysis of the original release. Very under-rated in my opinion. I would rank it with DOFP probably.
But there's the Fox Disney deal. LLL need to get all their Fox projects out before it's completed. The CD keeps getting delayed because new X-Men films are coming out (with two coming in the next 12 months). So, maybe this one won't happen.
I think there's something about the way this was recorded and possibly orchestrated that makes it sound much smaller than it actually is. At the time I found it to be sparse and not particularly thematic, but revisiting it over the years I find it's filled with brilliant writing. Not always hummable melodies, but rather a constant string of interesting motives and complex harmonies that create a cold yet emotional world of dissonance, which in turn lent the on-screen antics enough gravitas to make people take a comic book movie seriously. And what's so different from all but perhaps a handful of comic book movies since then is that the music for each scene is distinct and different.

Yep, I love this one and could not have articulated it better!
I like the score but it took some getting used to. I don't think I would've liked the score if I didn't see it in context of the film. It's a very odd score, almost avant-garde.
"Logan and Rogue" is an exemplary track, though the action music used a strange synth approach to up the weirdness of the proceedings, especially with Mystique, as if mutation had its own theme and seemed detached from the drama. It's the wailing woman of synths. But far be it from K-Men to not experiment.
