Maybe someone should turn it down a little.

Only have heard the first two tracks and can already say this is better than most of the stuff we've heard this year.

Amazing what you can do when pressed to write & record a film score in a short time span.

This is one fantastic score. Between this and War Horse, seriously if Dragon Tattoo gets any praise whatsoever, I seriously think Williams and Desplat should retire. They obviously dont belong in a world where people like crap like DT.

Well, Williams is probably close to retiring anyhow but Desplat has a long career ahead of him. I think he's one of the few that can straddle what the current film score scene requires but also imbue his music with a melodicism that doesn't freak out filmmakers as much so as to eschew the musicality we all love about film scores.

I gave up on awards a couple years ago. They don't mean shit really. They pander to mediocrity and popularity, not what is in fact good.

EDIT- I'm listening to Oskar's Montage and it's quiet moving. Who knew Desplat could wring so much emotion out of a i-v chord progression. Just shows that it doesn't have to be complex- just well written.

I think it doesn't freak them out because it's very discreet, to the point that it can go even unnoticed in the film.

This is a great score so hopefully this thread doesn't devolve into some strange hypothetical idea that one type of music is better or more "correct" than another. Take that to another forum whose intentions are to disqualify the ingenuity of the human spirit's creativity and hardship. You're not satisfying anyone's beliefs but you own.

I think it's a lovely score and I'll be buying it when it's released. Desplat doesn't always resonate with me these days but when he's on, he's really on for me. I like the detail and sophistication in his arrangements.

I like it too. It's also the first time I've heard a new score in monophonic sound for quite some time. wink It really gets a sort of Psycho-vibe going on at times given this.

Did anybody noticed that Oskar Monologue sounds like a much more emotional version of one of the themes from La Fille Du Puisatier?

The track list it's different from the FYC cues. Seems like it has less music.
